What tire width?
Ahh yeah 700c x 40. I didn’t measure but I think it comes out a little wider than that.
So yesterday I got the first stopper flat I’ve had on a tubeless tire that wasn’t because of a faulty tubeless setup. I tried to pool the sealant at the puncture, but nothing happened so I broke the bead and found that there was just a residue of sealant left in there so I put in a tube.
When I got home yesterday evening, I pulled the tube, dumped a bunch of Stan’s Race in the tire and reseated the bead with a compressor.
At first it was hissing and I thought that it was going to be annoying and complicated until I took the wheel out of the stand and shook it up. As soon as the sealant reached the puncture, it squirted out the hole and hit the ceiling for half a second and then sealed completely.
Then it didn’t loose any air over night and I rode it to work this morning.
That Stan’s Race shit works!
Rode to work on my tubeless rear wheel, didn’t die! But I also think I left my security skewer allen key in my garage so that my setup lasts through the day lol
+1 This stuff works amazing for my 22mm inner width crabon rims. Great length to $ value. A++ would recommend. I originally thought 24mm would be too wide and need trimming to fit the 22mm but the depth dimension of the curved rim bed uses the extra 2mm to make it the perfect size.
this is my method as well. unfortunately sometimes if i don’t have a good seat, the bead will fall off the shoulder when i drop the pressure. then i know i need more tape.
Dude I know we’re both in the business of selling bicycle specific components, but this stuff is literally identical to name brand tubeless tapes in every single way, right down to the width, and a single roll will last a home user for years.
The blue is noticeably thinner than the yellow. Another difference is that there’s a film on the blue that makes it harder for me to press into the center channel as I stretch it around rim. It grabs the rag and is very annoying. I buy the yellow in bulk from some UK ebay seller.
I have not noticed this at all.
Noticed a number of people talking about sealant injectors in another thread:
I’m due for my first top-up soon - is it stupid to just break the bead on one side and dump more?
Yes. Because then you need to reseat the bead with pressure. If you put it in the air hole you can get away with a hand pump usually.
Yes. Just remove the core and use one of the 2oz stans bottles to top up
tbh I pop the bead and use the compressor. yo. lo.
Once I bought that Harbor Freight pancake boi, believe I’m using it.
That just seems harder, though. I just pour sealant from the big Stan’s bottle into a little 3 oz travel squeezy travel bottle with a nozzle that I got at Walgreen’s for like $1.50. The nozzle goes into the valve stem (with core removed) and it’s pretty clean.
This
So I’ve never needed to do more than one layer with gorilla tape. Am I going to need to do multiple wraps with the “ivory” stuff?
yeah but I spend no time transferring milk from a larger container to a smaller container, and zero time removing and re-installing a valve stem… so
But you spend time seating and unseating the bead. Which can be quick or a nightmare depending on the tire.
two time around. Still lighter than almost any other option. Only add more layers if you need to build up rim.
