Souplesse Casings and Bike Soup - The Tire Thread

Are you sure the rims are taped up with actual tubeless tape?
Or are they some sort of strange Mavic UST fuckery that no one knows anything about…?

EDIT: just creeped your profile and found your Trance and the DT rims. No strange Mavic-fuckery around.

ok, then you’ve now met the tire that requires a compression chamber to seat properly

It isn’t those. It’s a set of Shimano wheels (mt66) and Maxxis tires. There’s definitely tape in there that covers the spoke holes and they came with tubeless valves installed already. I haven’t been able to get the bead to even sit against the rim. I guess because the tires are 1.9. they just want to sit in the middle of the rim bed.

I have and really like the Joe Blow with the compression setup. It solved a lot of the standing headaches I was having with setting up tires, thus paving the way for a whole plateau of new tubeless tire frustrations.

What’s worked for me: Seating the tire with a tube first, break one side to remove the tube, then pump quickly.

Excellent! Thanks!

I like the Topeak JoeBlow Booster (reviewed here). Of course, as I found out, it helps if your valves aren’t clogged with old sealant…

I used to do this

Tubes?!

I use co2 to seat tubeless tires. I only have to do it a few times a year and I got a big box of them on amazon for not many dollars.

Also fuck earth.

Still regretting not getting on the TB14 groupbuy bandwagon…

Iunno if I can get the TB14 to run tubeless. Maybe? Anyone tried? If I did, what’s the max pressure I can run? 30PSI? I’m not sure that’s sufficient to accommodate my mass.

I’ve tubelessed my open pros. Some trial and error with tape and cut up tubes has gotten me a pretty reliable setup that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone, but I’ll tell you exactly how I did it.

Putting a tube in for stubborn tires (read: panaracer) is the way to go. Also just go right to a compressor instead of a chamber bike pump. Not much more money.

Do I have one of these in a NYC apartment? Do I have Compass tires?!

Plus you can then take up airbrushing t-shirts at the fair and make some side cash.

Having an air compressor is not an issue. Presently, I have three.

Well, I’m interested. Any clues as to what max pressure I could achieve?

I run 30-40psi on exposure 34s, I weigh around 210-215lbs and always have +10lbs in my basket.

Sometimes also need to remove valve core to get all the airs going in fast. Tire should remain seated after.
