I hope they’re doing this right and it becomes a worthy successor to the late Bianchi Pista (now an expensive singlespeed road bike with track ends) - an inexpensive entry-level steel “true” track bike. Based on the stupid threaded headset, I’d guess not, and that it’s just Specialized trying to steal away some Kilo TT/Alien/Kazane/etc sales. I guess it all boils down to price.
picture aint working for me but i found this on urban velo. same pic?
dig the chromed stays, fork and retro decals, but overall…meh.
dont understand the logic behind this bike.
Anyone who buys it obviously appreciates a vintage aesthetic, threaded fork and all! however…no lugs?
And if specialized is going for neo-classic, then why the threaded fork??
Looks nice. If it were threadless I’d consider it. Right now I’m looking at a Kilo frameset or an older Pista frameset. Do they really think anyone wants quill stems?
The industry is always a year or two behind what the people in the know actually want. Two years ago EVERYTHING had to be NJS, so that meant that lots of people wanted the threaded look. Now we all know how much easier life is with threadless. Of course, the industry isn’t marketing toward us, they’re marketing toward the masses who are also generally a year or two behind. It’ll be a perfect fit.
It would look better if it was compact geo. The steel Allez that they made with round tubing and compact geo was one of the coolest bikes I’ve ever seen. It’s just something that you don’t see very much so it’s more interesting.
