Sup stole my bike and I need a new one

drivetrain tech has gotten so good and has trickled far down. old steel bike with modern shifty bits > nice complete from 10 years ago

Aren’t road bikes dirt cheap now? Since everyone wants bigger tires and discs?

There’s a pretty sweet pricepoint occupied by carbon bikes with 105 components, that’s for sure. If I fit on normal human sized bikes I’d be all over it.

I put priority on things I’m constantly touching: brake levers/shifters, pedals, saddle, bars. I’m happy with a 10s drivetrain, so I don’t spend much there. Cheap Ultegra/105 parts do fine. I don’t spend much on stems, posts, etc. Kalloy, Origin8, or Ritchey on the high end.
Wheels: I use a $200 WH-RS610 wheelset for reckless times. Fancy wheels are $400 1500g alloy things, akin to these: HUNT RACE AERO WIDE.
If building my own, DT R460 + Sapim Race + ≄105/Bitex/equivalent hubs.

Do I buy this for drastically lower than posted price and throw away everything except the frame?

I’ll take those wheels if you’re just chuckin em.

an update:
i found a Columbus tubbed frame with a kinda ugly paint job for cheap
gonna spend the $$ on the shifty and pedally bits
gonna need a fork, still debating which direction to go with that

i just want to get this thing together before weather starts getting gross if possible

anyone tried vinyl wrapping a frame?

I think vinyl wrap gets done, it looks not amazing unless you’re pretty good at cutting and applying very even tension while setting.

People have had a lot of luck with Plastidip, though.

i need to do some more looking into that, seems a lot easier

throw away the ergos, sell the thomson, and yeah. i really like gunnars.

status of my budgetbike.org/kanyeshrug. Kinda started out with something else in mind but this is what I am piecing together for now.

starting to look like a bike

yea Columbus
my only concern is that the fork I picked up has a shorter steer tube than i had hoped. I have a feeling I’ll have to grab a different one if it doesn’t

No specific tubing sticker? It looks like Gara which is what my Olmo was made of. If it is, you’re in for something special!

this was the bike i had (in 57cm or whatever)

my understanding was that theyre the same bike w diff forks

That will be one rad looking bike if built with the proper knowledge of Tarckā„¢ at your disposal.

Now that Ryan is dropping info, I think the Olmo was zona not gara. Now I’m confused!
