But shops will still have to waste extra time hunting through at least three vendor catalogs to find a replacement tire for some dumb ass build the same way we are dealing with plus tires now.

This is largely just a struggling industry grasping desperately at any way to make a customer buy a bike more than once every 5 years.

As trail bikes in particular really started to become optimized in the last ten years, it’s pretty obvious on the sales floor that riders are keeping bikes for longer, and that has the bike brands big mad. Just about every “innovation” is just an attempt to convince customers to drop even MORE money on the latest version, and a lot of people are literally not buying it.

Yeah ever since mountain bikes suspension and geo got figured out, this has been kind of sad. I see no reason to buy a new bike unless I break a frame.

what’s the longest stock spoke you can buy?

Not sure but heres a 380mm long 14g spoke.

And if you are ok with fatty 12g spokes you can get 635mm

My wheelbuilder buddy says his go to (Alpina) stocks the good stuff up to 340mm now.

And I calculated spoke lengths for my probably future Nextie Unicorn 32 + Paul WORD hub wheels and it comes out to 313mm 3x, 304mm 2x.

If you buy a new bike, you have no reason to disassemble and rebuild it constantly. Where’s the fun in that…
