That's a nice rack thread you had there; shame if something were to happen to it again

Did they add a grill plate to the front rack?

I was thinking about building something like this for a front basket to cut down vibration. Turns out “Tennis Ball Isolation” really is a thing, but for drummers.

That won’t really work for your situation because you’re not dealing with real load bouncing up and down, just a few pounds. I always just stashed my layers (hoodie, rain jacket, etc) in the catering bag and left the food on top of that. It gives enough bounce to keep the food pretty stable. Only problem is your clothes smell like curry.

Why not an old foam camping pad?

Yo dog, I heard you liked triangles…

*shudder*

I audibly groaned when I saw it

The best thing I can say about that is at least when the crown mount fails it will merely drag heavily on the front tire, rather than cause a full lockup endo.

I hope.

I’m looking forward to posting photos of all the terrible bikes locked up in MPLS in the summer. So many.

If it’s just keeping the bag from bouncing is it ok? I’ve never had a front rack, so I have no sense of how fragile this one is.

Follow up question: pump or flashlight in the st bottle cage area?

Folding lock I think

Oh I never would have guessed thst

I mean, it’s sort of a triangle…

Scalene triangle?

you want a triangle that is less diving board shaped, that way loads can be transferred to the joint at the fork legs in shear, instead of just pivoting about them when it flexes. that would then transfer the bulk of the fatigue to the crown joint which is when you break a thing and it gets grabby with your tires, causing the bicycle and rider to then pivot about the front wheel and in turn put the whole bicycle/rider assembly rubber side up.

someone made some old rear racks that had clamps for the seat stays which was kinda neat- no shear loaded joint so the bolt/bolt preload isn’t then doing all the work

So you’re saying you don’t want your rack to plane

saw this on ebay – combination tubus ergo style lowrider + top platform. Thoughts?
