That's a nice rack thread you had there; shame if something were to happen to it again

Does anyone have a shiney tubus fly to sell Me

I have a very heavily used, slightly modified and somewhat rusty tubus fly that you can have for free.99

I wouldn’t reccomend the fly for bikes with 700c wheels unless there’s no fender involved. I made it work, but it was tight and the fender was squished. Fit’s fine over 26” with a fender.

Here it is squishing the fender on my old Traffic:

And here’s the Traffic with a more appropriate rack looking fucking awesome after @orc did surgery on it:

That traffic was so good

This is good information. It’s now off the table. I’m just going to buy a shiny Nitto r-15 when they’re in stock again

V-O Constructeur ATMO. Not difficult to add a flat tang to the brake bridge for additional support.

Or if you need more beef, the V-O Campeur rear rack is also shiny and lovely and compated to the Nitto R15 I like that the V-O does not use adjustable struts for the main support.

What is current OP for box bag to rack? I wish the VO decaleur i have was .5” longer. Are RaClips still good? Any better products? It’s been awhile since i was in this market

Fidlock connectors like on the Restrap rando and Pelago rack?

You heard it from me first

Ra clips, decaleur and a rigid material inside the bag

All of it or you will get floppy

Seconded all round

Because side to side sway? Makes sense to me

What are alternatives to VO decaleur for 1” threaded?

Berthoud? Not sure who still sells it in the US though.

I saw a homemade rear pannier rack on the bridge the other night

frame m6 zits on the inside of the chain stays below the bridge. it was just a single horizontal hoop cantilevered over the rear tire with a single stay down to the drop out braze on on each side. so the whole fabrication was one bend, two brazes and 4 swages

I made this a long time ago and I’m not sure if any better options came along since then. Certainly not any cheaper options…

DIY or custom
There are some stem spacers that have threaded bits on them that you can use

Also depends on the stem situation

It’s floppy if:
If the rack is too narrow and the bag is too full
If the bottom isn’t stiff and the bag too full
If the bag is too full and the sides are not stiff
If the top is not rigid and the bag too full
If the bag isn’t connected to the rack on the bottom
If the bag is not connected by the top and too full

Decaleur
Side and bottom stiffeners
Bag and rack interfaces

1/3 is bad
2/3 is annoying
3/3 feels overbuilt and heavy

Im just going to say it
Boxy bags are great for historical reenactment and just ok for everything else

This isn’t my first box bag setup lol

Yeah obv but you asked

restrap is a crash hazard without a locking decaleur IME. got crashed out by my bag in north philly one morning on my way to work before i added a decaleur

I just wish @igor had a longer (100mm) decaleur but there are maybe dozens of people who would buy one.
