That's a nice rack thread you had there; shame if something were to happen to it again

My first mtb was a talera

My first fixie was (and is) a Talera.

I was born on a Talera

It also does have a 7 speed drivetrain, like the Talera. Probably is a Talera under there…

Oh, and my horrible rack workaround for probably-the-year:

The travel agent on the front wheel of my gravel®©™ bike runs into a centered fork crown stay (I had this happen on one of my other machines when I put mini-Vs under it; in that case I replaced the mini-Vs with regular Vs, but that’s not an option with this machine because the tires are huge and the brake tracks are stupidly narrow) so I put a plate at the crown and attached the stay offset to the NDS. Probably not a good plan for a rack that’s supposed to carry a lot of cargo, but for small rando loads (and shopping trips) it should be fine.

It looks like the fork I’ve got (with the exception of the paint scheme):

(1kg, 210 mm’s worth of steertube, 40 mm threaded – my Talera has a considerably longer HT, so it looks like you could take this fork, lop off the threaded part, and do it as a threadless fork like G-d Themself Intended.) Want it + the Nashbar rack + some brazeons + some puddles of brass?

heck yes

Gimme a few days to glue things up and fling it in a box for you.

oh shiiiii

I wonder how it fares on bumpy terrain? The promo video shows the rider just lifting the bag off, so I get the nasty suspicion that a ill-placed root or rock would result in the bag lifting off, rotating forward, then plunging off the front of the rack to its demise.

It’s magnets so idk. :joy::rofl::man_shrugging:t3:

How do they work

I’m not sure about the one I posted but their retrofit magnetic bag does apparently require a twist to release, you can see it towards the end of this video:

It’s a valid concern though!

better not hit any bumps in the middle of a turn then

I mean, currently our best off-the-shelf solution is a couple Velcro straps so things can only get better

Velcro straps are pretty sweet tho

kidding
I have a buddy who uses the fidlock thing as a downtube water bottle. Works great. I’m sure this is fine

Yeah, I think the secret to the magnets is only giving them one direction that easily releases in sheer.

First design exploring something that could snap a rando bag into a rack. It’s designed for a rack with fore-aft rails made from 3/4 aluminum angle stock. For your traditional round tubing it would be a lot lower profile. I have a pile of other ideas but I wanted to explore things that have no moving parts first.

Interesting design that includes dynamo wiring hole:
