I should try this. I only gave it whirl for one year and gave up coz fat and slow.
Also, aside from all the reasons that Coggan and crew gives for HR being bullshit, the HRMs built into the Garmins are also woefully inaccurate.
i started out pretty fat and very slow
now at least im skinny

yup yup yup
basically it just let me know i will never be fast
at least not while working and going to school
and well, the drugs and smoking and drinking probably don’t help much
how many hours a week do you have to commit to school+work?
if 50 or less, then you can get 10hrs of good training in. more than 60, you’re in damage limitation mode. in between, it depends.
get some rollers and ride them early in the morning if you have to.
some of your posts have this “it ain’t gonna work” vibe. don’t do that – it takes about 1500, 1600 hours of training and racing to begin to see whether you’re going to get to cat 2. after 2000, then you really know. so, at maybe 500hrs/year, you’re looking at 3-4 years just to see what your level is. keep the powermeter and keep plugging away at it.
be in for the long haul. there are ups and downs. but if you just keep at it for enough hours, you won’t suck.
look at this fucking new guy trying to deflect his jar of dicks by dropping useful knowledge and being posi and encouraging. who the fuck do you think you are.
i think ultimately you had the work ethic this season but your program was too much too soon (based on your post at the top of this page from january), among other things.
just thinking the battery life on all of the ones I’ve looked at is too shitty to get me through most of the single-day rides I give a shit about, much less the multi-day shit or being able to NGAF while keeping track of town miles
def don’t want to try using a phone app and get both shitty data and an obliterated battery

The battery life on those isn’t so bad for a single day ride like a century. Anything longer and you’d need to consider an external power supply like this:
doug you’ve come a ways from your leader days.

yeah and getting hit by a car was the nail in the coffin
if only road season had started on dec 20th
lulz
but i mean replace x stressor with y and racing’s still racing.
as i always like to say, you can train 20+ hours a week all winter long and still get crashed out/total your bike/break a couple bones come the first lap of the first RR of the year.
whole deal is based on overcoming adversity repeatedly over time.
i should probably just sell all my fucking bikes, get a full body wax and become a competitive swimmer.
bikes seriously rule and the pleasure i get out of riding/racing easily negates the financial/physical/mental pain that comes with trying to do it in the real world.
Swimming open water is like road racing, all kindsa drafting and shit. Pool swimming is like track.
I sometimes wish I woulda gotten into bikes instead of swimming, riding bikes is more fun… I suppose I’m built for swimming though, or maybe since I started so young swimming built me?
do you have a huge torso and short limbs?
my HS swim coach told to go ahead a give up swimming since my limbs are super long
so my LTS is around 75 now. i still don’t know what stress balance is for…
(sorry i only know the golden cheetah terms, i always forget the wko+ terms)
i have been adding lots of 100+mile rides in prep for the RGR on 8/18
but i also wanna be a competitor at the last stage race of the year 8/31
what kind work would be prudent between the rgr and the stage race?
Stress balance is the difference between long term stress and short term stress or acute training load and chronic training load. It’s used to taper for an event and prevent overtraining. Assuming you have an accurate model, TSB or stress balance less than -20 would put you in danger of overtraining. To taper for an event, your stress balance should be trending positive and should hit somewhere between -10 and +10 for the targeted event.
