I mean yeah that’s a different bike with a custom color matched stem with a tastefully minimal design that obviates the need for a spacer stack while hiding the bolt. It does indeed look good, and is neither the bike nor the phenomenon I was talking about.
I agree that -17 looks better on a bike with a level top tube.
Fair enough. I was talking about what the guy had actually wound up with, not possible remedies demanding further custom work. Sounds like the guy is largely walking away from the bike, tbh.
Who actually owns that Winter? I looked at it and got a semi.
'course that’s been the case for pretty much anything Eric has ever built.
For years, I’ve just wanted an excuse to give him a pile of money, but then I’d be like one of those vsalad fuckers that never rides bikes but has a custom.
It was mainly vanity that drove the swap from a -6 stem to a -17 stem, but also a little curiosity to see how the ~1cm lowerish bars would ride. It turned out to ride pretty damn good while giving me the option of being able to lower it another 15mm before the stem is slammed. At this point, I’m actually liking the mismatch look of the stem.
No doubt, I need to ride it, and all my other bikes, more.
I still kind of want it too, but I also want a longjohn cargo bike (rode a Supermarché a while ago, was fun), a longtail cargo bike, a cycletruck, a 27.5+ hardtail, a Polyvalent with swept back bars and a big front rack, some other upright dork bike with skinner tires, an even junkier lockup bike, etc…

20-inch wheels are fun
I don’t take pictures of my bikes on rides, so you get to see my beige-on-beige porch at night.
-Would ride
-Would not ride, but would steal your 11s cassette
-Would swap the saddle, ride it, and take a clearer photo.
-Would sleep on your porch (it’s very clean).
