Because of my fucked up shifters, I’m out here looking for some friction shifters, or Daumen Schalthebel and so besides the usual eBays, I, being the right type of freak, I searched out 3D printed friction shifters.
That’s where I came across a cool thread on tarck and immediately signed up to give my compliments to the chef. Then I was abused and told to post my bike here first. This was actually my second post.
ok good as long as you were sufficiently abused
i think what i’ve learned here is that we can attract users so long as they haven’t actually had any interaction with more than, say, one thread of the forum
Dude, what do you need? Im upgrading my shit and now have some3x6 and 3x7 shit laying around
so it seems like the Tarck compound is actually going to be in Deutschland?
Oh, I mentioned a second bike back in Canada… you guys seem the type. 89ish Stumpjumper hauling a duffle bag chariot. Now I get the trailerpack crowd. The frame is a bit big for me, thus the short stem, I bought it high on xbiking, wasn’t thinking.
This was an overnight trip in Nova Scotia where I was testing the roadworthiness of a used Chariot trailer my brother bought for his kid to ride in. I left the bike there for him to make use of hauling child.
I’m seeking 3x7 thumb shifters of pretty much any sort. The further from the cheapest most generic, the better. What you got & Where are you located?
Welcome new person! My first post was also an ill-advised trailer camping setup.
Atmo the tarckest shifter options are the 3d printed ones or these from @igor which I have and like. Or ebay yourself something weird
No, you’re not allowed to answer questions yet
Falcon friction shifters are the only thing that should go on that bike in replacement. High reliability and utility, like a 1990 trek 950
Careful which solvent! @marcsworks I used some not-at-all-environmentally-friendly brake cleaner and while it did dissolve the old hardened grease, it also melted the plastic shifter body.
Does it barspin?
I dig the welded pannier and modular bike shoes you designed. The BMX fixie thing… I should like it but it looks terrifying to ride at speed…
The bars are QUITE wide Skull Skates bars, which randomly came into my possession, so it gets quite tight in practice. Also, it doesn’t have a rear brake mount, and the front cable isn’t routed. So yea, no.
Easy, I just don’t ride at speed! Honestly it’s not that bad, so long as you don’t need to stop. It’s not fixed. When my fortune changes and I return to North America, I want to do right by it with a coaster or drum brake or something, maybe even weld the mounts it deserves.
and thanks. That makes me feel nice.
I never thought about dithering my shoe sole stiffness, so now that’s stuck in my brain! I wonder if a removable/replaceable shank would suffice? Like swapping out skateboard bushings or something…
where’s the welded pannier project?
I made this shoe like 2 or 3 years ago now, so I’ve developed it further since, only in my head… this design was built on a deadline and basically the first iteration. I think a few different options for (an improved) shank would be cool. Right now I’m doing some write-ups about my shoe to try to land a job here in Germany, but might start a thread and get back to work.
