The "what's it worth?" thread.

Sidenote.

should I be afraid of the wheels built by this rocky mountain cyclery online vendor?

I’ve been keeping an eye on this thing, and it’s about to end in 2 days.

How much higher could it go and still be reasonable?

Eh, if you overpay and go up to 550 or so, you’ll finally have the damn road bike you want. I wouldn’t go that high, but if you want, go for it.

I like that bike, but it’s not like I’m willing to overpay just to get it.

I was thinking 450 tops, maybe if it stays at 475 I’ll still consider it.

Just wondering if I’m being cheap or if I’m drawing the line where it should be.

What difference does 75 bucks make? If you get it for 550 and like it, it won’t matter.

at that price i’m guessing they’re machine built, so you’ll be best off taking them to a shop to have the spoke tension touched up and trued if need be.

though fwiw i have a cxp22 rear wheel i got online that i’ve had for 3 years that i started riding right out of the box and it’s only needed one truing after being beaten around on lansing roads and in a few cross races. so drivers aside, these wheels are michigan proof.

Including the shipping it’s currently a $525 bike. Already over the limit atmo.

…but I just checked NYC craigslist. I’m starting to feel your pain, man.

Yo, NateRo.

All this needs is some drop bars and levers. Maybe this cat will take a little less, say, $300 for it?

dubble

is there a tougher rim than the cxp22? them things weigh a ton.

well, there are plenty of rims all over the spectrum of weight/strength ratio.

Sun MTX33.

I think if you look around teh internet, you will see hundreds if not thousands of testimonials to the durability of a quality handbuilt wheelset.

I don’t know your particular situation, but guys looking for a ‘tougher’ road rim usually have either only ridden machine built or weenie rims. get some hand built wheels.

i agree, i was trying to say the OP probably doesn’t need a rim as tough/heavy as a cxp22.

rocky mountain cyclery wheelsets are handbuilt.

but there is a range of quality from “handbuilt” wheelsets.

on the whole, i’ve heard good things about rocky mountain cyclery’s wheels.

but does he need anything lighter? cr18s are a bit lighter in the same pricerange. both plenty sturdy. i guess my choice between the two would depend on the bike and i can’t really think of any other cheap rims i’d wanna buy.

also, they finally got some decent looking graphics on the cxp22s this year, it seems.

I know, right? NYC craigslist is god-awful. At times I think I’m willing to pay the extra shipping cost on ebay / forum marketplaces just to not deal with the craigslist BS.

okay, yeah. agree totally. would not want a rim as ‘tough’ as a deep v for road wheels.

wrt handbuilt wheels, does the guy sign each wheel he builds as a sign of quality/pride in workmanship? he’s probably a pretty good wheelbuilder

Tarckee, I hit up that guy with the Torelli but he never got back to me.

I slept on it, and said fuck it. I got the Paramount.

Overpaid a bit but whatever. Could be worse. Could be dropping $700+ on a RYD.

nice. oh well. you love that bike.

is that a panto’d stem? i’ve never seen a schwinn panto
