If a person wanted to do some serious long term touring, what would they need? bike wise? camping gear? clothing? money?
How much planning would be needed if I just wanted to get on a bike and go?
Should I do this at the end of the month if I don’t get a steady job?
Those people doing the sweet fixie xcountry tour got me a’thinkin.
Maybe you’d want to visit CouchSurfing along the way and meet a few people who’d be willing to show you around town. It’d a bit better (and more fun!) I might add then staying at a motel/ hotel to get all cleaned and washed up. Most of all, staying with your hosts cost nothing and is absolutely free.
A girl I know went all around Europe and used CS. Found it very safe. I’m sure you’d echo that sentiment too once you’ve given it a shot.

I would want to couch surf and camp.
Shocker Ian. I am definitely starting to plan right now what all I would sell, what I would give to friends to store.
I would be a nice purge too.

bike:
best solution (obviously): a real touring bike with low fork braze-ons for a front rack
decent solution: any bike with a rear rack, two water bottle cages, and a crankset that’ll go down to basically 1:1 (i.e. a triple with at least a 28 big rear cog). probably fenders if you are riding into the fall
camping gear:
solo tent (or bivy shelter)
decently lightweight sleeping bag
stove/gas/pots/pans optional
clothing:
2-4 sets of chams + jerseys
rain jacket
buncha socks
some slippers/comfy shoes
money:
credit card with no balance, and a couple hundred bucks in savings.
If you wanted to just go… U just need to understand how to read a map and use it. A GPS would be awesome, but might not be cost effective. If ur phone has GPS, you could use that to primarily get you unlost if the map isn’t working… get something to keep the map waterproof, and a pad that you can just write stuff down on…
wait wait wait, I could get a 56cm long haul trucker all deck out but it is also belonged to DOOFO!
Holy crap that was easy.
Let me look at my planning. As of right now my idea was to head north to Seattle from SF at the end of August. I am planning on going for an indefinite amount of time, basically until my money dries up.
PM me some deets doofo I would love to be sponsered by you.
I am pretty good reading a map. My phone does have GPS but its pretty much going to be off unless calls are need to be made/received or gps/internet used.
