Here’s an '84 610 I built up back in high school. Don’t remember much about it but I didn’t like it very much and sold it pretty fast. Looked nice though

What did you end up doing for chainrings?

Nothing yet, currently probably get one of those 46/30 bikinGreen things in the spring when the full drivetrain overhaul happens

But honestly who knows. I’m known to Yolo

hey do any of you engineering nerds want to help a guy figure out a measurement based on the given information?
specifically looking for headtube length, and assume it could be… triangulated? this part of math isn’t necessarily my strong suit so maybe im wrong.

I think you would need fork a-c or down tube angle to be able to define the bottom point of the head tube

Yeah, in spite of bikes being ā€œall triangles,ā€ they’re not actually. Old geo charts tend to be under-specified so that you can’t solve for all the other angles and lengths. I’ve seen speculation before that it was intentional to keep bike geometries from being copied easily, or it may just be marketing folks not humoring bike nerds.

this all makes sense and feels very duh in retrospect

Also assumes the top tube is level, which isn’t always so, especially in tiny sizes. If you need accurate head tube length best bet other than measuring is to find someone who owns that exact bike and ask them to measure.

Was available on eBay locally, local pickup only and listed as a 24ā€ (the black trek is 24ā€)
I trusted my instinct on assuming the actual sizing based on his shitty pictures. Told in message is was close to NOS. Threw a very low offer ~60% asking price, accepted and now 12 hours later The Angel has a new bike that fits like a glove.

Definitely not ā€œclose to NOSā€ but genuinely one of the best condition 420s I’ve come across

Gonna remove rear rack, swap saddle, pedals and bar tape, and will probably run the rest as is for awhile. Eventually probably cobble together an apex group on it (which I already have most of)

You’ll all be happy to know that somehow I’m not the most excited person in the house about the 420 blaze trek
