That’s one part I won’t be trusting to Ali. GRX on the way
If you call an OPEN UP allroad, then sure. It’s the main feature of my bike in my view. I swap back and forward 2 inch MTB tires and usually runny-ass Barlow Pass or the 35 mm one. I have zero issues with shifting (even when I was indexed) and brakes rubbing, and that’s going from an 11-40 to a 11-50. Don’t have to dick with B-tension either. This is in 1x.
What are you up to for the chain ring?
I have a 40 on it currently, but am about to bring it down to a 34/36 or 38 for an impending poopbarn. I havent crunched the numbers yet. Last time I did this event my 46/34 front and 11-42 rear in 2x mode was very lacking.
2x ? Dude I know swears hes using a GRX 1x sgs 12 speed on a 2x setup.
Appreciate the feedback. I might look in to a 650b set of off road wheels since the smaller size will help on the low gear inch side while not having to do anything extreme with a cassette. Talking with a few people a 1/1 ratio is adequate around here if you’re not camping and a 48/32 11-34 on small wheels should give me more than what I need. Playing around with a gear calculator gave me some perspective on how big of a chainring would actually be useful as well.
While this bike has tons of tire clearance the geometry isn’t all that strange. 72° HTA and 50mm offset fork puts trail and wheel flop within 1mm of my road bike on the same size tires. And a BB drop of 71mm should give me plenty of height to run smaller wheels if I wanted to. I might not want to ride big 700c anyways since the bike would get so tall!
How about TRP HY/RD? or maybe Origin8 Vise?
I was planning on just buying Spyres, but HY/RD split the difference in price between cable and a new set of hydro levers/calipers.
2x for now. Ratio and swapping my drivetrains around is the stop after that.
I finally sent off the Hunter Gatherer for paint and now I’m thinking about building it up. I have 10s SRAM Red shifters and the appropriate derailleur, and some old OX801d 46/30 cranks. But I’m just not excited about building it up 2x for some reason.
I was idly looking at blowout Ekar and AXS deals before I remembered I had the Red sitting around. The idea of going full dither with a Ratio kit for 1x12 seems much cooler.
Unfortunately I haven’t been paying much attention to all the Ratio chat around here the past couple years. But it seems doable.
I started 2x on my Stooge Rambler but have been running 1x11 for most of its life. It’s enough gearing for virtually all rides, but my inner optimizer wants to go back 2x since it sure is fun to pedal fast af down hills and be able to winch up every climb (even with a load), but at the end of the day the 1x is basically always fine.
None more cromulent.
That housing loop is criminal.
If you want to go 1x with a big range then you will need a sram 1x dangler to attach a ratio SR52 cage onto. It works with 11,12 and 13 speeds. 10 as well I would think.
Oh wow, it goes under the qr
gramshaving is not a crime
I cut holes in the bottom of the Banshee frame bag, cauterized the cuts, used patching material to strengthen the region, and used some wide washers to bolt it on. Cut off the velcro straps, and now I have a smooth, uncluttered downtube, with room for downtube bag straps now. So far it looks good. Had to intentionally loosen the lacing along the top since it didn’t have straps pulling from the bottom.
Other than looking cooler, there’s no abrasion along the downtube, where all the dirt got inside the straps, and it might even be better on the zipper this way, seeing as it’s overall a bit less taut.
Pics come next daylight ride.
hehehehehehe
