Weird Build Dithering Thread Infinity: Part 2

trek crossrip fork- 400/50 rack mounts, carpet fighters with aluminium steerer. holler if you want- you’ll pay shipping twice but it’s relatively very not expensive to get it to me

2nd gen VO pass hunter disc fork for size 51/53 had 60mm rake and mounts.

But, you have to get one somewhere.

BM forks are a good find, thx

Trying to set up a swept bar thing for someone who is short of inseam /proportionately longer torso, that would do well for grocery/babby hauling and not be a toe-overlapping floppy circus

Here’s what I came up with:

do i make my ditherer into a sw8 basket hybrid?

WHAT BARS?

I had a dream last night about riding a flat bar fixed gear bike with a rack and basket and I think I need to make this happen how

Nitto rando bars.

Sweet fixie 2020

since writing that last post I put flat bars and slx brakes on my cross bike. it’s a start.

Edit:

It’s pretty fun but damn a 49cm cross bike has some serious toe overlap

no, like a hybrid where the bars aren’t quite so curly

How are those MT66 wheels working out? Looks like Bluesky still has some.

They’re fine. I haven’t used them too much, but they seem to be as good of a deal as I thought they were. I’ve had trouble getting some maxxis tires to seal, but that’s probably more my fault.

DQ do most low trail bikes run 650b tires for a reason(s), or because that’s just always how they were done? Seems like the Radlawn Nordavinden is the only 700c low trail bike I recall.

Asking for me. Having thoughts of an uprightish low trail commutery bike to run 700x38-ish tires.

Bike geometry is like this for me.

Honestly I think it’s because the set of {people who like 650b} and {people who like low trail} has a very large overlap.

There’s a bit of connection with replacing geometric trail with pneumatic trail, so you’d be looking for fatter tires, and 650b was the traditional way to do that.

The latter.

The contact patch would probably be slightly different due to the different tire diameter, I’m guessing the taller tire would have a longer narrow contact area, but would a 700x38 tire have a similar pneumatic trail as a 650x38 tire? Or at least similar enough that it probably wouldn’t make a big difference?

There’s also the issue of toe overlap, especially since a lot of those bikes had fenders, too. Smaller wheel reduces overlap. That’s also why you see a lot of 26" wheels for smaller frame sizes. 650a is also a thing, but more for the Japanese market for some reason.

Fat tires produce more “camber torque” than skinnies, which is somewhat offset by lowering the trail.

I don’t think the wheel size has that much an impact though, It’s just that 650b will fit in traditional road-ish frames where a fat 700c wouldn’t (or it forces a longer CS length, toe overlap, etc.)

Based on the replies from people who know more than I do, lower trail is a good response to the change in bike handling caused by larger tires with the particular geometry used in old fashioned roadish bikes.
