that’s the outboard-bb-style lockring for 15mm TA, right?
Another strike against Shimano: I think the front Deore XT on my Jeff Jones is leaking. Put on a new rotor and pads and the damn thing sounds like an angry seagull again.
The CL rotor on my saint 900 rear hub is some bizarro spline and I had to go to 3 shops to find someone with a tool to put it on. None of you will have the same problem I did. I like CL because it’s just one tool one attachment. Having boxed many bikes for travel nearly all of them being 6 bolt. CL seems way better. It’s faster by far, won’t lose any bolts. When we shipped CL bikes just throw a zip tie through so if it unscrews it’s still retained. Can’t do that with 6 bolt. Do you reapply loctite when you put your rotor bolts back in probably not because you likely don’t have it reassembling. Can you grease you CL lock ring just like you did on your pedals yup. Oh fuck you have 6 bolt and just stripped your torx bit/ screw. Have fun with that.
let’s see for how many more days we can argue about 6 bolt vs. centerlock.

I’ve got some really shit bikes and this hasn’t happened to me ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I have about 50/50 CL/6 bolt in the stable but not even talking about just rotors. I’ve had about one bolt get fucked on a bike that I can remember
and it was a THREE mm allen that had road salt spraying directly onto it for a couple years. I can see how CL would be better in a shop/bike mechanic environment. Fuck turning 6 bolts and taking care of them in that context, over and over.
CL is simpler in the same way that German engineering is better.
They are both terrible… give me lace on 622 (or 584) rotors any day.

yep - the cassette-spline ones work fine on 12mm thru axles. The ones that are necessary for 15mm thru axles use a Hollowtech II BB tool, such as the Park BBT-69
yeah Saint M800 & M805 actually use different rotors too. Standard CL splines are ~35mm in diameter, early Saint used rotors with ~47mm dia splines. Just fuckin’ weird shit.
Lets make a standard… but not TOO standard.
that generation of Saint is about as common as Shimano Airlines
it also goes with a specific axle-mounted dangler
It’s a good thing I’ve got extra rotors, and adapters for horizontal and vertical dropouts. It’s really quite a good system except it’s rapid rise.
lol forgot about the rapid rise part
someone tell grant about it
My former boss wants me to make his Trek Second District “gravel worthy”(his words). Single speed, caliper brake, 130 rear spacing. Plenty of tire clearance. Tried to talk him into a clydesdale fork and xtracycle for deliveries for his cafe/bakery but he vetoed. He didn’t give me budget but wants to keep it on the cheap side and will reimburse me for parts.
Going to give him an old bontrager front wheel and see what tires I can get away with and try to convince him to go with internal gearing. Putting on a smaller chainring for now.
Crank is heavy. Brakes are heavy unbranded hunks. Might sell him some tektro calipers I jave laying around. Who knows.
650b that thang, amo.
What does gravel worthy mean outside of fatter tires?
I think 650 might be in order…I just put on a 32mm in the back there is barely any cleasance under the bridge. 700x36 in front with plenty of room. Maybe it’d be a fun 69er.
Easier gearing maybe a basket.

Former boss? Trek district? Gravel worthy? This whole situation sounds like a nightmare.
