Sram automatix.

New SRAMBO AXS has 10-36 and 30/43. Discuss.

Seems like a high low gear. My commuter has the same low-low ratio and it’s enough but if I had a steeper hill or more weight it’d need a smaller front.

note that unlike the other AXS road cranks, the Force WIDE with the 43/30 kicks the chainline out a wee bit (just like Shimano GRX)

Supposedly on standard 8/9/10 Shimano pull, 50t max.

that would be big if true

I’m building up an early 80’s specialized sequoia. The build is almost all dead ender stuff, mostly from my bin, except I’m dropping 0.35bong on new wheels so I can experience nu road tubeless life. I got conti gp5k in 32mm, hope it’s as good as they say

Adrian had those in the 650b variant for a while. They are pretty darn nice.

Here’s my current dithering dilemma:

I really want Shimano wet brakes for my Big Dummy so I can use the brakes from the ends of the Jones bars. The stock BB7s work alright but the frequent pad adjustments are frustrating.

One part of me says, live with the BB7s, but even aftermarket pads for those run $25-40 for a set. A new set of Shimano brakes is like $75 before tax/shipping. But,

  1. Jones bars have weird long grips and I’m not 100% sure I can get them off without destroying them. Might be another $30 if I have to replace those.
  2. 1700mm stock hose for a rear brake might fit the Big Dummy. I tried to measure the current brake cable on the bike and my best guess is that it’s 1750-1800mm and already a tiny bit tighter than I would have cut myself. A 2000mm hose is probably another $30 unless someone knows a better way.

I know hydros are always the answer and I’ve got the money. $70-80 is 100% worth it but if it ends up closer to $150 then I’m less sure but it’s never really going to get any cheaper than that…

Just hydro the front for now?

Yoooooooo didn’t consider that I didn’t need to install both at the same time lol

highish end shimano brakes don’t need to remove the grip, new deore and up i think. there’s a lil pin you can press to allow the clamp to swing all the way open.

Cheapo avid levers (on there now) will only slide off though

Got one of the grips off without damaging it so I ordered new brakes. If the rear hose is too short I’ll order a kit off ebay

if you don’t care about saving them there’s other ways

Buy 99c ESI knockoffs and cut a second pair in half to make up the difference.

I saw a post on instagram where someone had done that with Oury grips (on Jones bars).

just use normal length ESI grips?
