35c with fenders sounds like a good candidate for rando shenanigans.
My thoughts as well.
Any idea which Whiskey fork that is?
Looks like No. 9 road+ if I had to guess
FORK LENGTH 383 mm
That might work with my Waltworks low trail fork, need to do some math.
Found a better photo from BMc blog. I’d be very curious to see this compared side by side with the new Pass Hunter since they seem to be targeting a similar use case. Tapered head tube, modern TA and disc standards, etc. Anyone know what tubing specs are on the PH?
I like Mike and I think the BMC bikes are really cool, but that build makes me scratch my head.
Why? Ultegra with wet dicks, good wheels, and Runny Arses looks fun to me.
i don’t see anything weird about the build, feelings about white seats aside? Full Ultegra R8000 build, functional-but-not-blingy other components. Pretty normie. Pretty sure he designed it explicitly with clearing those jan bonjovie tires in mind.
seat pole length, spacer stack, and stem length all point to maybe the frame is a little too small, but Mike is a giant beanpole of a person and maybe he ordered the sample frame a size down so that he could trade it off to a bud for some extra feedback or something
not sure about the PH, but for reference the Black Mtn rim brake frames were both 8/5/8 OS and IIRC the two current disc frames are as well - so that’s what I’d expect this bike to be.
RE: BMC Build. I guess the carbon aero handlebars with likely not very aero riding position stuck out to me, along with the fact if I recall those rims are pretty heavy, plus a pretty heavy saddle. Its fine.
In other news, talk me out of having the Sequoia I crashed into retirement made in Chitanium. I goofed around in solidworks the last couple of days and fixed some things I didn’t like about it originally.
I steepened the STA by .5*, Raised the stack a smidge to eliminate some spacers/get the same fit with out the Specialized riser bar, shortened the chainstays 5mm, lengthened the seat tube and raised the toptube for more framebag clearance. Designed it around the same fork since it’s fine and miraculously it seems that specialized changed the bikes at some point to 1.5 taper instead of their stupid 1.25.
And threw together a quick paint mock up:
I just really want to talk bike dithering y’all. I’m a little all over the place, but bear with me here:
So I did up the Crux upgrade with the carbon State adventure fork and dynamos- yay! I rode it at night, it’s awesome, I love it.
But then I just bought this Endpoint frame for the wife with no fork.

So I have to build that up. I’m thinking: I could steal the State carbon fork off the aluminum-frame Crux and then go out and buy myself a complete carbon bike with wet dicks, convert the Crux back to mostly stock and sell it. I think carbon will ride better? I found these Obed bikes with a China catalog frame and 11s GRX that is basically exactly what I want.

Or I could keep several bongs in my pocket and just buy a $100 carbon hylix fork off ebay. Which, if I’m being honest, I think she’d be more into the skinny look of that one more. But I’d still be riding aluminum and cable 10s.
So… yeah. And then on the Endpoint build… @EndpointBraden. I have 11s Campy shakes and Hayes CXs. What is the hot mix’n’match with 11s campy on a Shimano freehub these days for 2x? They were setup Shimergo 9s last time I had them connected to anything. But now we do… jtek? SRAMpagnolo? I can’t remember what the hotness is now. 9s seems kind of gauche. Just buy a Campy 11s rd that shifts up to like 32 and use it on an 11s Shimano cassette?
Sometimes I feel like I’m just blabbering, but then I remember this is a bike website, where we can talk about bikes sometimes as a treat.
If you have Campy 11s shakes paired with a Campy 11 long cage RD; you will shift up to a 32t no problem, even in the big-big combo. Short cage will handle a 29t. Use a shimano/sram cassette and it will shift good with no hacks. There was a running change in Campy cable pull circa 2015 so make sure you shifter and rear mech are matching gens.
those obed frames look legit for China cabron aside from BB86 and possible internal routing issues
These shakes are 2010 Athena 11s. I’ve never run them with a campy rd, always shimergo. Sounds like a current gen 11s medium cage like this would not work?
So what would I look for to get one that works?
The other thing I was looking at was the ICAN frame with the sweet champagne gold/purple rainbow sparkle paint
looks like same frame with a BSA BB. $$$-wise it leaves a lot of room to buy a groupset.
pre-2015 11s had no option for a cog larger than 29t. You can prrobably mess with some tail hook lengthener thing but I don’t recommend it. Or don’t ride near the big-big combo and shear your RD off.
Sell those shakes before they break. They can’t be re-built like the 10s shit. You will tear the hood replacing the entire shifter body. Get a modern hydro group with flat mount calipers and never look back.
The Campy shakes would be for the Endpoint build, which is not flat mount, and where I would prefer to use some things I already have. I could just use hubbub routing and go to an older XT derailleur and run 9s like I did in the past , but I could have sworn someone had mentioned a better mix-n-match solution had become available. Shiftmate? Maybe I’m imagining things.
If you don’t care about thru axle I have a brand new Kona carbon disc fork I’ll sell you for $125 shipped. It’s QR but it’s light and has fender mounts.
And a crown mount that takes a light if I recall correctly
I gotta think about QR. fork is tapered?
Yup. We shipped a few early FBM qr bikes with these when Whisky forks were sold out.
SO I thought about it and… thru rear and QR front?
