Weird Build Dithering Thread Infinity: Part 2

I can respect that.

However if it was thru front/qr back then yes drake

I’ve had good luck so far with a couple of them (13-32 7 speeds, and 13/14-32 6 speeds). They had some ones 2 generations back that had problems with slipping pawls (I had one replaced on warranty), but the new ones seem solid so far. I had a pile of old suntours and shimanos for years, but eventually had to buy something new (or ditch all my wheels). Also, the VO 126 mm hubs have been okay for me.

Of course, if you’re making new wheels, don’t torture yourself with freewheels! They’re for weirdoes only at this point.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this sort of dither but seeking advice

I’ve been staring at the 4 bolts on the rails of my Big Dummy for like a year now:

Turns out they are spaced for bottle cages. Why? I don’t know. Surly gonna Surly.

My plan is to get this thing all fitted for dynamo lights with my stimulus bucks. That’s a battery Secula there, so I’d replace that with a wired version. Then I’d like to use some kind of bracket across those screws to mount a wide German-style light like a Toplight Line. I’m thinking I could run both of those off dynamo but if not I guess I’d still put a battery light there.

I’m guessing the craftier people know exactly what they’d do but I’m bad at “building” stuff. How do I want to do this?

What if you had 2 seculas on there

One wired one dynamo

Bottle cages, clear bottles filled with water, drop a glow stick in each one.

Can you instead just use one of these V-O brackets bolted to the top deck? The 50mm hole spacing should work with the wide german rear lights.

ATMO only use those bottle bosses if they are actually in a good spot for what you want to do.

!!! I didn’t know VO had those. I knew xtracycle sold something similar but I thought it was a little too pricy. I can definitely put a VO order together tho

buy clear bottles and a bunch of glow sticks, break glow sticks open and pour their glow juices into the clear bottles. Glow juice lights up whenever you hit a bump, based on my understanding of the chemistry?

Going to put the carbon fork back on the rlt. also probably back to 700c because the xd cassette on the 650b is pretty much done and I have a basically new ultegra cassette on 700c wheels I’m not using. Might put the milkcrate rack on the road bike.

Also thinking about selling one or two of my three 80s/90s road frames to pay for a new project and build up the third as a super deluxe parts bin randonneur. Probably compact double with ultegra front pusher and campy 8 speed with suntour rear pusher unless I want to spent money.

New project will be a big tire fixed gear disaster. Maybe have Marino build something. More likely buy someone’s shitty pompino off craigslist.

Also someone more talented than me should draw a “Baskets over Barspins” design. I’d stick that sticker on my bike.

Have you seen the basket till casket pins?

Yeah those are great! They should do a baskets not barspins sticker.

Rim brakes rule, disc brakes drool! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So what kinda pads are y’all running? I was about to just get some Shimano out of habit but could not pass up the opportunity to dither. I used to run salmons and dual compounds BITD and can’t remember if I liked them or just put up with them.

I ended up with some pad holders with dual compound inserts in my final paul touring canti iteration.

Dude I’ll toss whatever pads I have in my box into your lever mail

Thank you, that certainly fits the theme of this build.
