Late night ebay dithering got me buying NOS Sachs Quarz cranks from Germania. 130 USD (shipping included) does not feel fiscally cromulent for deadend tech, but they’re shiny, 170mm, fit my surplus BikinGreen chainrings, and will work for my incoming Marino.

180mm, maximum 34 tooth small ring, funky. Will also accept 175mm and funky. Open to suggestions.
On the bike. Rear wheel was a couple mm off on dish. Had to touch that up because these tires are 1-2 mm wider on these rims. Pretty tight back there.

Today we went to a fancy pool party. I ate poorly and drank beer and wine. When we got home I decided to take a rip on the new wheelset. I guess they’re fast because I set nine Strava PRs on segments I’ve been riding for 15 years.
HY new fork is ready and brakes should be delivered today. Think I have all the pieces to reassemble.

strip down my surly and make it a single speed cx bike? I don’t ever use it to commute or bikepack anymore, and have other bikes that meet all those needs now…

Shartmo if you don’t have a back-up bike for commuting/practical shenanigans I would leave it as is in case you need to get somewhere and your primary bike has a flat, but if you are good in that regard, a single speed sounds fun!
I have 3 backups to my backup.
i’d sell it but i dont like single speeds. but if you’ve never had one, try it.
To know and enjoy a Singlespeed, a worthwhile dither.
It sounds trite, but maybe try riding around in your 32/18 combo, or similar, and just don’t shift. I love singlespeeds and that’s how I determined I could live with one before I actually built one.
Not having to shift when racing CX is great. 3 speeds: sit, stand, run (or walk!).
