Whoa
that’s hawt
how tall are you?
I’m a giant. My friend is tiny.
The Torpado is a 49 st/51 tt.
Merckx fits me like a glove.
an even brighter IQ-X beam and great power management
they went a little too wild with modes on the screen, the mount is a little avant-garde but zero rattle
more annoying thing is that it’s still not possible to get a spare mount
I’ve been mulling moving the DA/Ultegra 10 speed bits from my maroon Davidson over to my white one, selling the maroon frameset off, and moving the 6800 White Ind/Belgium + build kit over to a proper old man crabon frame.
This just popped up on CL. Pretty likely I’d be slamming a stem on a Synapse-sized head tube anyway, so the short steerer doesn’t necessarily scare me provided there is enough to at least get a stem on. Paint’s pretty ugly (not in a cool way), and I don’t love the proprietary seatpost. I assume this is not a very high end Synapse given the metal steerer, but I spy threads in the bb shell.
Maybe I’m just bored. WWTD?

It sounds like you’re just bored. I get the same impulse to build a bike I already have, and it has, historically, not been very worth it.
I usually find that completely disassembling a bike and rebuilding it with refreshed wear parts is about as satisfying as building an entire new bike.
WHen you do that, you sometimes also get to discover that you need very expensive new parts, which then confers the added benefit of costing as much as a used frame!
That having been said, you should totally buy a used Slate instead of a Synapse and get super weird with a lefty gravel build.
There’s no way that your Davidson is not a superior bike to that thing.
Those Synapses were pretty horrible
Probably. It’s just silly to have two bikes that are so similar.
Thanks for talking me down, y’all.
What’s a better old man crabon rim brake frame?
I test rode a Roubaix once and thought it handled like hot garbage.
??? I have successfully ordered spare Ixon mounts and have them on three bikes for one light, unless it uses a different mount (and it doesn’t look like it does)
I wanted to get some feedback on this scratchpad spreadsheet for putting together my first low-trail flatbar 1x disc brake commuter bike.
The goal of this bike is to be a little ugly and possibly mistaken as a LimeBike from afar by would-be thieves, obviously its going to look different enough to stand out but might eventually go for a full on repaint to match the colors and blend in with the herd. I’m calling it the MimeBike.
I originally wanted to use the Masi Randonneur frameset as the base but they seems to be completely uninterested in selling it as a frameset and are focusing on completes. Unfortunately that would mean I end up spending more money and end up with a pile of components that will not be useful for my goal. I think I am going with Polyvalent since it ticks most of the boxes and closer to the color I need.
Trying to choose the best balance of cheap / modern / reliable since this will be my bike for locking up downtown or extended periods, throwing on the front of the bus for commuting. It will end up with some nicer components that I already have in the partsbin.
I’m struggling figuring out the crank / chainring situation. Ideally it would be a silver crank arm with a 44t or 46t narrow wide ring but that is apparently not a thing.
Will end up looking similarish to this:
That sounds like a lot of work for a lockup bike
if you’re committed to this
As someone who has those handlebars I would get something wider and less swoopy atmo
The fuck thread you think you’re in right now?
Squirrel, do at least five more drafts of the spreadsheet, and then change your mind about brake type after you buy the frame
yes dithering is about convincing people to do something other than what they’ve planned
which is exactly what I’m doing
it doesn’t hurt that I’m objectively correct
If I wanted to fake a LimeBike I’d run an Alfine on the back.
VO still having their 20% off sale in a couple weeks?
