at the very least you need a mixte
I thought about it but there are slim pickins for low-trail / disc / 650b x 47mm AND adjustable dropouts.
I would definitely have gone for the mixte option if there was a low trail mixte available.
I could probably do this whole project much better with a custom bike but again, trying to keep it on the cheaper side.
I like this project.
ATMO you can find 110bcd and 130 bcd narrow/wide chainrings so I’m not clear on what the issue is here.
I believe that a thin pants guard over the big ring + a pie plate at the rear will really help sell the “not a nice bike” look you’re going for.
Another limiting factor was the need for QR compatible dropouts now that everyone is going TA. I really wanted my Pitlock skewers on there so I didn’t have to ever lock up my wheels.
With the 46 you could literally use a small pizza pan.
and about creating a project that is logically impossible to actually finish

EDIT: I’m dumb, forgot that dyno needed special dropout. Also not 100% sure that frame is disc-able at the rear.
Leaving all this to memorialize my dumbness.
what about DT TA with the removable head?

anyone with a 6mm hex can take your wheels though, so I guess put a ball bearing in them?
What’s the steepest ramp to and from work? A 1:1 low end might be overkill, so why not a 44 w/n front and an 11-34 rear? (110 to 35.5 inches seems like a reasonable range unless there’s an unavoidable 20% ramp on the way back from work.) And then you can drop down to a (somewhat less of a theft magnet, but still reliable) 10 or 9 speed setup and a larger selection of silver + centerlock rear hubs.
What about a Soma mixte? Still disco, but an actual mixte with a neutral paint scheme that would make a nice basecoat for whatever violent green you wanted to cover it with.
I think that commuter bike is like, $1200 over budget
I definitely thought about going 9 or 10sp but figured that 11sp really shines in a 1x setup. Also trying to move all my bikes to 11sp so I can just buy a ton of chains and not need to have a supply of 9/10/11 as I do now.
Good idea on going 44 and smaller gearing in the back. probably makes sense since riding in the city doesn’t allow you to stay in the 46/11 for very long anyways.
That is a really cool idea, wish they used a more proprietary interface instead of 6mm
Not particularly relevant to your dithering, but you can definitely use 11 speed chains on 10 speed setups. I assume 9 speed as well.
The 2015-2018 rim brake Synapses are pretty rad. The Defy Advanced frames were good. Felt Z series were meh. BMC GF series were awesome. BMC SLR has tall stack and so do Cannondale Evos.
Now that I think about it, that “removable lever” is just a dang 6mm Allen key in disguise.
