thanks bros. I have a Kona fork I want to try with the current setup, maybe it will ride a little less nerdy. Or just back off the stemmage. I pm’d Orc here about a rack but I guess I need to find him on flickr to get that rolling.
eh I think I was just trying to keep it up against the post and not the paint, but yeah it looks ridiculous.
I put some wheels and tires on it. Ended up going with the SP hub in the front and an offset rear wheel. 36/36 spokes because I’m heavy and I don’t care if my wheels are a lil’ heavy too. This isn’t a race bike.
Made for the fop chariot market. Quills are de rigeur for fop chariots, especially from some place like Soma. It’s a lot less offensive than a M.A.P or some other high dollar art-is-anally constrecteueruer-ed fop chariot with quills and cantis. The two taiwan 650b fop chariots I can immediately recall both have cantis and quills, and you don’t get into modern features until you are looking at the FRE/OGD level of design.
Wow, that looks like something I’d consider actually buying
Anyone know tubing dimensions? Assuming 969, hoping 858
It’s modern (not the old great stuff) Tange Prestige with an infinity fork, so not nerd tubing and definetly not 858, which is good for me because I’m going to be loading it with more camping gear than Soma recommends. Jan reviewed it and didn’t hate it but he’s said it doesn’t plane like nerd tubing does.
Re: quill stem
Yeah, not sure how I feel about that, but I’ll take it.
Hahn Rossman cut one apart once, he might know the details on the tubing.
I rode some k’s on my V1… it didn’t plane for me, and it was pretty hard to ride it sans hands without some intense core engagement. Fred thinks the frame might have been crooked, or something.
Though, imo, a very capable bike for the money. And the new ones are much more aesthetically pleasing.
Evidently broke a spoke on my Camber’s rear Roval wheel. Didn’t hear it or notice it (it was a moto trail with lots of rocks so everything makes noise). On this stupid hike-a-bike that is a part of our enduro tomorrow I notice my full squish turned into a fixed gear. Straight pull spoke broke, but somehow got bent and then wedged in the XD cassette. I couldn’t push it out with any twisting or pulling.
I half-assed washed my bike and put new brake pads on. I’m not good at setting up brakes and the old pads were worn asymmetrically. They were sort of ok at slowing me down sometimes. Sometimes I couldn’t even get the rear to lock up. Hoping the new pads will make up for my shitty set-up skills.
Ditched 700c/38 Barlow Pass for 650b/47 Horizons on the Logan. Beyond minor issues working out the front fender line, riding experience is very positive.
