What did you do to your crosscheck today?

I paid the deposit for a Marino frame last Friday. This Friday, I took possession of my Rocky Mountain after 7 months of waiting on a warranty claim.

I think I’m going to stay the course and flip the Rocky once the Marino gets here.

For some reason I am really blown away when shit I do on forks works. New wiper seals and a successful lockout transplant from my original fork.

Rode in moab. Did slick rock and wasn’t prepared, going back tomorrow to ride it with some food in me.

Changed it to 2x, put on some Jones bars, and shortened the cables/housings. Unfortunately it didn’t magically become a cooler better bike.

Definitely not cooler with Jones bars lol

But did it become a better bike?

Today I put a different stem on my dorkiest bike that will allow the bars to be raised even higher.

That one is cool yes

Had a bit of a facepalm. Road bike is down, presently as I have a bunch of stuff that needs to be fixed on it, so I’m riding the gravel bike exclusively on a wheelset that was my “spare” for the road bike.

So, this wheelset has a DT240 classic rear hub that I got used way back when trolling ebay. It’s never been as smooth as it should’ve been. I figured it just needed to be cleaned and re-greased. I rode the thing so infrequently I never bothered, though, but every single time I rode it, it annoyed me. Too much back drag on the freehub which would cause the chain to slack and make a clunk when resuming pedaling.

I figured if I got into it, I might as well throw a 36t ratchet in there, because maybe some parts are messed up or something and why not throw money at the thing? Parts came in, and of course I have zero time to work on the bike, but I took the only 30 minute window I had and took it apart.

Of course the grease that was in there was nasty and wasn’t the DT “special grease”. Took it apart, cleaned it, popped in the new spring and star ratchets with the right grease, gave the freehub a twist… and still not right.

Stared at it for a sec, while my memory enaged, whipped out the ol’ Internet, looked at the arrangement of parts, there’s three, not hard to fuck up, and realized that the DPO of this hub had installed the spring incorrectly, behind the hub star ratchet rather than the one on the freehub.

Goddammit, that was a 5 minute fix. Reassembled it all and now, of course the hub goes BRRRRRRR, like an expensive DT with a 36t star ratchet should. It’s almost annoying.

Briefly avoided pulling weeds by finally removing the crooked starnut I set in the old day ruiner like 4.5 years ago, was less trouble than I thought it’d be.

nothing to MY bike today, but i worked the pit for the boulder junior cycling team today. four riders in the junior boys race pitting every lap. we also had the race leader for the first half. fucking wild.
that kid’s parents bought him $4000 of Dugast tires for his ten sets of Zipp 303s. their coach estimates that his program, which includes two Europe trips this year, will cost $30k
what a world
ultimately all the kids were really nice and my son got to help out and is stoked

A creak ruined the end of my ride on Monday so tonight I set about solving. It. Blasted the chain ring bolts with crc. Nahp. Tightened the one-bolt spider. Nahp. Tightened crank arms. Took of crank and removed square taper BB. Bearings felt good. Took off and greased all 5 chain ring bolts, Nahp. Swapped pedals.
I was getting pretty pissed by this stage. Slackened off the spider bolt to retighten and it gave a tell-tale click. Mofo. Sorted.
