I stripped the cable fixing bolt on the RF dropper lever that lives on the enduro bike. I replaced it with a Wolf Toot, which was more than I wanted to spend. It was better than the other options in stock and I’m riding in the morning. I’ll see if I can helicoil the RF lever to keep as a backup.

I dropped the handlebars on the Marino down 10 mm. We’ll see if that gives me more traction on the front wheel.

repost your marino- i can’t keep track but i think you got a squishyboi?

Yah. 160F/150R.

right. that thing looks sick!

I went for the worst ride today, suburban hell, MUP and on the warmest day of the year. It was great even when at about mile 8 of 30 the bottom bracket started creaking so badly I thought that a crank arm was going to fall off. So I guess it is time to retire the old aluminium canti cross frame and bag buying an MTB.

Lowered the stem a couple spacers on the MTB due to front end coming up on climbs. Had a moment of the front tire sliding out so l lowered the fork psi.

Probably don’t need 30f/35r in the tires. I forget that this isn’t a BMX bike

Thanks for the reminder to check mine. One of those things that I keep forgetting about until I’ve already started a ride and start hearing it again. Then forget when I walk through my front door.

I kind of doubt it’s the crank since the noise is consistent despite changing loads, but 40 year old alloy cranks are always something to check periodically…

This is a BB30 with adapters for Shimano hollow tech. It fucking sucks.

Swapped the 100mm +6 stem on the Polyvalent for a 90mm +17 over the weekend for slightly more casual vibes.

This morning I took the day off work and dithered the Lorry from 1x10 to 1x11for a lower low and better steps between the gears, and moved the chainring to the outer position and that seems to be working better. The 15-18 step on the 11-42 10 spd cassette just felt too big and that’s where I spend the most time. The 15-17 on the 11-46 11 spd should feel better.

Now all three friction bikes are 10 spd and all three clicky bikes are 11 spd, with a single speed bike as a treat. Balance. :yin_yang:

Also unexpectedly drained the water that collected in the hollow legs of the Lorry kickstand. Probably shouldn’t have ridden through that standing water once last week. It was deeper than expected. Sprayed it out with some water displacement forty.

Does orange seal rim tape suck? My first time using it, it went on nice. I did 2 wraps in new tubeless wheels and neither is holding air. I know the answer is probably just a couple more wraps, but I’m not sure if I should switch to a different tape?

Finished stripping this down, no rust or anything

As it happens, I finally stripped the parts from my Look , in preparation for swapping onto the smaller Time frame, which I was surprised to learn has a BB30.

I have the delrin inserts!

Going to give them a try because the inserts were cheap and the frame came with ceramic bearings.

Put some wheels and a handlebar on and sat on the bike, fit seems in the ballpark.

Get ready for the creaking…

@cousinmosquito and I have had questionable experiences with the WheelsMfg threaded jawns. Your mileage may vary.

I’m currently torture testing a Token PF30PS. It’s not Delrin, but something closer to what the Shimano BB86/92 cups use.

The delrin cups I was using seem to have been slightly oversize, when I installed the cranks in the new BB I realized that the HTii flag would never quite sit flush with the cups and I think that had a lot to do with my creaking. If the thread together BB doesn’t work then it’s prolly new frame time.

Actually, I am pretty happy with my Wheelsmfg. For one thing, it’s effectively self extracting. Just unscrew one side a few mm, then tap it with a rubber mallet. And keep doing that until it’s all out. No other tools needed other than the spanner.

I never had any creaks, but I did have bearing failure after a couple of days after a very short ride in torrential rain. This I believe is the fault of my OPEN frame which can collect water in the drop chainstay until it fills up the BB area.

I think I heard @EndpointBraden say that those expensive bearings have way worse seals than the OEM type SRAM or Shimano ones. I plaster the outside of mine with grease to hopefully give them some help.

I haven’t had a bearing fail since that last one, quite a while back know. So in summary, I am happy. Trying to extract the plastic SRAM ones was a complete nightmare for me on the OPEN.

If you haven’t thrown it away and don’t want it I’d be interested in taking some measurements off it
