It’s totally a park I could spend all day at
HMU next time, it is like 4 miles from my house.
Probably hitting the pump track again this Saturday around 10:30 if it’s not dumping rain. I drop sup off at her pottery studio at 10 then go roam around for a few hours.
can you do a manual? i got a bmx bike years ago and tried very hard to manual and never got good at it
Maybe for like 4 feet haha
I’ve had an annoying creak on my road bike for a while from what seems like the BB area.
Spent about an hour and a half messing with it. Removed chainrings, cleaned everything and installed new chainring bolts to published torque specs. When I was putting it back together I noticed that the FSA BB is binding under really light preload for about 30% of the crank rotation so I reinstalled a Token that I had on there previously that doesn’t bind. Added a .6mm spacer to get the wave washer to compress a bit more.
Dropped the wheels, cleaned off the dropouts and skewers, loosened and retorqued the stem bolts.
Still creaks. At lunch today I’ll probably pull the seatpost, clean the seat tube out as much as I can, regrease and I swear to god if that fixes the issue I’ll be relieved but still a little annoyed.
But it’s probably most definitely the crank that’s complaining in some way so I’m kind of shopping for either a spider based power meter for my Praxis crank that never complained or maybe a different FSA that my Stages arm will fit on.
If it’s a thru axle frame or fork, it might be that one of your axles is loose.
I think it’s not QR and addressed this possible cause
The noise is like a light click and seems to occur on every half crank rotation - so not only on one side during a power stroke - somewhat independent on power level and not consistent on every revolution. It definitely gets worse when I’m out of the saddle going up something steep, but will also happen if I just rotate the cranks sitting on the saddle and then put weight on them.
Haven’t investigated this more, but I have Speedplay Zeros which haven’t ever given me any issues other than squeaky cleats that an occasional spray down with Pledge has seemed to solve.
Maybe cleats. Maybe loose cassette lockring?
Front gorilla cable end?
This one has got me more than once!
Gut says bottom bracket. Is it threaded? Clean, grease, and torque.
Or a pedal. Clean, grease, torque
Def clean and grease the post. That has gotten me twice.
I appreciate the suggestions!
I’ve had two different BBs in the bike. Steel, threaded.
Eliminated cleats/pedals by riding it with flats.
Pusher is R7000 with a tidy cable end.
Pulled and regreased the seatpost today - I’ve solved some creaky “bottom brackets” that way at the shop as well - I always try that before I tear things apart and sometimes I get lucky. No change in noise.
How dumb would it be to flood the crank - spindle interface with wicking loctite?
Check that its not a sloppy power-link too. Thats got me before.
The worst one was a zip on my shorts clicking the top tube, but the most common is seat post binder and seat rails in my personal experience.
Put some new cranks and 4pc bars on the bmx bike. This shit’s easy. Literally all I needed was a hammer and a 6mm hex key.
You say it gets worse out of the saddle so I don’t think it’s the post. Sometimes the bb or pedals can tick at the threads and metal interfaces.
