OK I have a plan (for bike built around Hetre):
rim: 32h Pacenti TL28 650b
keeping it classy with: Novatec D712SB, black (135mm OLD, Campy disc hub) / SP Dynamo SD-8, black (clown bike version disc dynamo)
laced 3x: 273mm Sapim Laser and Race on rear DS just in case / 12mm brass nipples, all black
Thoughts? I don’t forsee trouble since these are going to be stubby little spokes all around. Sapim says no disc on Laser but internet says it is fine. The only time I ever broke one is by stepping on my front wheel and cutting/twisting a spoke with my cleat while messing up a cyclocross dismount. That was a proud moment in my life.
go chinese carbon rims? only ~60 more per rim than the pacentis
tension is tension, as you were saying not too many pages ago
the only downside of the skinny spokes is the windup and the price
cx-rays make the windup a non-issue but spike the hell out of the price
Agreed. 1.5mm seem to yield before I can get 'em up to tension. Fuck 'em. Never had a problem with Wheelsmith DB14s though which are 2.0/1.7mm. Honestly, never fucked with 1.5mm spokes very much. Had 'em on one wheel and tossed 'em as soon as I could.
Just use real spokes and make the wheel as strong as possible coz it’s not a fucking weight weenie build.
The notion that shitty spokes makes a wheel more comfortable to ride just blows me away. Fuck that shit. If the wheel isn’t comfortable then making the wheel weaker ain’t the place to fix it.
I’ve got these spokes in 300mm with dumb-ass Campy dish on my box section cross wheels. They are a PITA to build with but you only have to do it once. I think I’m gonna take the fine advice to try Super Comps on this build. They’re designed for disc brake use and only a bit heavier.

I would love to but I don’t know about max PSI and I want to use these with Hetres and Pari-moto on the road. I’ve been bugging Fred about this shit for a while.
Yo Eric I’m still interested in what you can come up with for this wheelset. Haven’t committed to anything. Though Novatec seems pretty sweet for the $$$ and matchy matchy with my knock-off dynamo hub, haha. Also I don’t think White Industries does 135 Campy based on reading stuff after I contacted you. You got email yeah?
I already have the rims and four all black Pave tubulars set aside for use on the upcoming Zank TIG. I ride a good deal of dirt on my road bikes so I don’t want to go CK to ENVE for my only wheel set.
Talked to I-9 bros at frost bike. Torch J bend drops sometime in April. Will be a bit less $$$ than King R-45. Love my kings but I-9’s are sealed better and from Beast Coast.
