Where's the dumb questions thread?

I like the hood shape of 7900 and 9000
Just sayin

Another forty or fifty thousand miles on 6700 and I’ll look at this problem again. Your view may be impartial but it is appreciated.

Keep getting this idea they are going to do a breakout 9000+ mech group like they did with 6600. Just to show off basically.

I like old red better than new red.
I am probably the only one.
I like the big flat spot on 7800 though. It needs to be paired with the perfect bar.

10s Force with 6600 front derailleur. Best all around mechanical group there is when you factor in performance, cost, and ergonomics.

Hey I know all about that!

I’ve almost sold my 7800 for 6800 a few times

pretty sure 7800 is better then that, too. Only ridden 6800 with OEM spec’ed 11-32 cassettes tho so idk if there are big gains in feel with closer cog sizing?

Plus short cage to mid cage danglers.

it is good stuff

that said i’m at least as happy with my 11sp so far, shift real good on 6800 crank and happy to have a free 28t cog

Get that sRMA sympathizing out of here. The day has finally dawned and civilization now sees it for what it is, what it always was.

Nah dog… Shimano may work longer but with increased mediocrity.

Plus I will always have hate for Shimano for constantly jacking with cable pull ratios. Sram shit may break too often but at least they are not actively trolling bike mechanics.

Rapid fire triple mtb shifter, Rapid fire triple road flat bar shifter. Different pull. Fuck you.
Alivio T4000 (which does work great for how cheap it is). Several different front derailleurs optimized for differently geared triples that won’t work properly together. Fuck you.
Dynasys? I don’t care how sweet the clutch is. Stop jacking cable pull. Fuck you.
7800 vs 7900 front derailleurs. Fuck you.
7800 and 6600 shifters that love to shear off shift cable heads. Fuck you.
How incredibly MEH 2nd gen 10s and 11s shifting is with out $15 cables? Fuck you.
Direct mount rear brakes. Fuck you.
Lack of support for 1st gen Di2. Fuck you.
Only offering top shelf rotors in centerlock. Fuck you.

Don’t get me wrong… I love XT 10s on my mountain bikes, current di2 is a godsend for fucked up tri bikes and their fucked up riders, and I will ONLY ever run their chains and cassettes but Shimano is WAY worse from a shop perspective.

my 11sp force has been immaculate.
it was stupid quick to setup. way less fussy than my 10sp durace

I’ve ridden Force 22, Rival 22, CX1, Apex, and X9 for the past year or so. Zero problems. For me, DoubleTap levers are ideal.

I’ve had 5600, 6600, 7800, Centaur 10s, Veloce 10 -> 8spd shimergo, 5700, 6770 di2 and 6800 on my personal bikes. I’ve ridden force 10spd on a demo for quite a few miles as well.

7800 was smooth but I didn’t like the front shifting or the hood shape.

Centaur 10spd with the good internals was rad but freehub/cassette shit was a drag

5700 hoods kill my hands and the shifting has been meh at best.

6770 was unreal, best ergonomics with the levers I’ve ever experienced and phenomenal shifting. I thought I could never go back until I test road a bike with 6800.

6800 is amazing, ergonomics are good and shifting is great but it does require more tweaking than di2.

Force 10spd is probably the worst modern road groupset I’ve ever ridden.

And here I am, still riding this 20 year old Campy 9 speed bullshit.

Shit - I got 8 Speed Campy I bought in 95 that still works good.

Road and mountain front shifters have had different cable pulls since the front indexing began. Shimano’s fix is to offer road-sized pushers for any mtb shifters, SRAM’s is to offer special flat bar road shifters

Dynasys pull is awesome for stealing the one valid SRAM innovation and making it actually work

those cables are fucking amazing tho, and nobody has to suffer the 7900 era problems anymore

centerlock is best

I wish there were more than 2 32h rear road hub options

Road vs mtb front pushers: yeah, and that shit is dumb

Dynasys pulls: yeah it’s so good the rest of their shit should share it like sram

Cables: no doubt. So good their mediocre shifters rely on them. Dumb.

Centerlock: I like everything about it that is good but it all goes to shit because most hub makers don’t use it and more importantly those that do still can’t get the tolerances tight enough to allow for wheel swaps half the time. Same hub, same rotor, gotta adjust brakes? That’s some bullshit. I’ll take a 6 bolt hub I can properly shim to make wheel changes fast any day.

Bullshit. Shimano changes things and does things the way that they do because they’re way fucking smart engineers who are constantly figuring out better ways to make bikes work. Sorry if you’re sad that they didn’t include an upgrade path to their magical shifting with perfect ergonomics and impeccable braking. 'Guess you’ll just have to sell some more high quality bikes, or ride some shitty SRAM drivetrain with a bunch of cobbled-together parts to make it work acceptably.
