I’m trying to go viral on Facebook- if I’m not Friends with you yet I’m coming (unless you come to me first). I work solo, this helps me keep connected with the community.
builders gotta adhere to a customers idea of how they wnat their bike to look…and sometimes the customer wants an ugly bike.
if the bike is built well and it looks like a proper design then i think the builder did their job.
Hopefully none of them are universally “ugly”, but it is part of my job to satisfy the particular tastes of the buyer. Individually tailored implies a non-universal fit- I’m down with that.
[Hey new guy, your sweet fixie is TAF, your other bikes are awesome, and your fillet brazing is… lust-inspiring.
What is the criteria you used to define “path racer”?
How long am I going to be the new guy? Somebody has to have registered after me…
That bike is a commuter that will be used on Eugene’s path system and is a fairly aggressive road race inspired fit/ position. It really is a “path racer” in the literal. Most of my bikes blur traditional “categories”, but they are handy tags to help navigate the web site and give people ideas of what a custom bike can be.
Jerk, err…ask away if there are any questions. Thanks for the welcome- and since I’m not hip with the new lingo- what is all the bear related action?

That’s a fair explanation. The OG’s at another forum I visit get pretty shitty about the recent mis-appropriation of the term (used originally to describe track bikes pre-1910, apparently) but your reasoning seems, well, reasonable.
Kinda strange to see plastic fenders paired with those awesome racks stems and frames.
Ever feel a pair of berthouds in your hands?
Planet Bike (or SKS) fenders don’t get dented on a crowded university bike rack. For high abuse (not use, but actual abuse) I often spec plastic fenders. The Cascadia, Hardcore and SKS fenders all also have metal cores should the user want to power their dynamo through them. The Cascadia’s are cast and have a really nice shape with good hard wear. They also don’t make tinny pings when pebbles get tossed into them. If you want a bike with Berthoud, Honjo or Tanaka metal or carbon fenders it can be arranged!
Different strokes, there are pros and cons- ultimately it’s up to the person buying. The SKS and Hardcore don’t have lips, but the Cascadia are pretty long and have inner lips like the rolled edge of a metal fender. Not knocking steel or aluminum fenders.
