Winter cycling 2013-2014

I’ve been using this Capo Limited Edition jacket specifically for road riding, and it’s still holding up well going into its 4th season. It uses a few different materials, and I seriously LOVE this jacket. The fit is great, and materials all do their intended jobs perfectly. http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/first-look-capo-cool-and-cold-weather-kit

My ibex jerseys are pretty damn billowy, but they’re also like 5 years old. Have they changed their cut? Or is it just the base layers?

Not sure. I also have an Ibex jersey and it’s also very form fitting. It’s good in length, but almost too tight everywhere else.

I was looking at soft shells yesterday at the shop, they also had these Endura jerseys that look pretty sweet, windproof front with fleece back for $100

i have last year’s model, and i love it for winter road rides. it’s a jersey that’s well on its way to becoming a jacket. front beads water nicely for not being truly waterproof, back ventilates, nice pockets, long sleeves. with a long sleeve wool baselayer i can rock this down to about 25-30* temps.

Good to know, I’m not sure I really want a softshell. That Endura Jersey seems just right with a wool baselayer and my Adidas windshirt thing stuffed in a pocket I think I’d be golden.

19 degrees this morning on the commute. But like 0 humidity so not even frost on the ground, and no ice beard. I could get a killer ice beard going… if only.

Not quite ready for PYB but here’s my winter bike 90% done, have to pick up more hardware to reattach the front fender, may yet change the bars ( a few times probably before spring comes again), and waiting on one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0090VU8VQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which I’m sure is crap but probably less crap than the ugly $13 ones.

Went from this to this.

Also need to decide if I want to buy feetbelts, swap to platforms with clips and straps, or just not have foot retention.

Took the front loading rando bike out for a ride the other day. Totally forgot gloves and didn’t notice until I hit the first downhill and instantly my hands were so cold. I tried the trick where you pull the rando bag main flap bungee over you stem/steerer tube and keep your hands on the tops under the flap.
Works so well! (but so far from the brake levers)

Looks like you found Nemo

Har.

Another one of “them” reporting in! I started having to put on gloves last week. Brr!

Vancouver had a clear and cool october, with no rain and only minimal frost. I busted my front fender at the beginning of october and dgafed all month without one because the ground was dry every day. I will have to put on one this weekend and figure out a drybag for my laptop now that the normal shitty vancouver rain is back.

Another winter DQ: Winter cycling boots.
Just got a pair of shopdeal Shimano MWB1’s. Feeling a little tight in the toe with double socks right now, but every Shimano shoe I have owned has stretched a lot with use.
Size-up thoughts?

fuck double socks. One pair of thick woolies + circulation and toe wiggling. Sweet new mtb gearing and FD totally fucks my fender line… like to the point of not riding with fenders anymore…

I haven’t ridden in real cold with my rando bike yet but have noticed that since my huge bag breaks the wind near the handlebars my hands are warmer even though they’re technically exposed. I like this!

attach to seattube above fd clamp?

attach to seattube above fd clamp?
after chopping a few inches off? Maybe, maybe I could cut a window in it, or just bend the shit out of it around the FD and zip tie it back in line… Im not too worried. Im not sure that I wanted to put fenders back on that thing. The way I ride it here they would just break again.

for Seattle gloves I have been using these.
I love them, I have bought 2 pairs so far and get about 2 -2 1/2 years out of them.

Can’t wait for real winter

Winter is here, rode the fixed gear in the snow this morning, 20 foot skids for days, good times. No ice under the snow makes it pretty easy but that won’t last long. Lol at the fuckers that are looking forward to winter, when you’re forced to ride in it, it fucking sucks, good luck everyone haha…

Wet fucking feet this morning! And that old feeling of jeans soakked in cold sandy water.

Time to put on a damn front fender. Oh yes and better add a second rear light so i maybe dont get rear ended by someone with a wet windshield.
