Your favorite cranks.

I can see the benefits of a Pake for mess work, since it’s straight-gauge and probably a bit more durable than most double-butted higher end frames out there.

But what the hell do I know. This is pure conjecture.

Anyway, I’m a fan of the old Sakae CR cranksets. Came in 144 BCD and have a cool swirly pattern about them.

what I’m saying is riding omniums on a pake he wont feel any difference from riding janky cranks pulled of a 70’s schwinn. The bottom bracket cluster will flex before the cranks will, thus negating any stiffness in cranks.

I had been riding RD’s for the last couple years on my conversion and then ended up switching them to my tarck frame. I recently wrecked and bent the NDS arm so I threw on some old Shimano 600’s I had lying around and I have to say I like the feel of the Shimanos way more. I think the 600’s are an underrated option.

Absolutely not. Seriously, this is a terrible idea.

I don’t see the overwhelming danger, I mean you thread the thing in good by hand, and tighten it down, the only thing the tool allows for is engaging all sides of the BB at once.

Outboard bearing bottom brackets already tend to loosen up a lot easier than traditional ones, and after you’ve marred the splines of yours (with the channel locks) and it’s still not tight enough, you’ll be screwed.

A valid point, may just have to buy the tool I suppose. Would you say that these type of bearings warrant the use of some blue loctite?

Who wants to lend me a GXP tool?

Just buy the fucking tool, you cheap piece of shit!

seriously, it’s 100% worth it to buy the tool you need. i’ve never regretted buying a tool, ever.

Got the tool, hurray for proper tools.

Swirly pattern FTW…

I think that propeller like nature of sakae cranks would be pulling my bike all the time.

Oh and what’s anyone think about yellow bikes?

What shade of yellow? That is pretty critical.

Well I was thinking about your average yellow, not flouro. or anything, probably on the lighter side, maybe not as deep as as old schwinns.

what’s your preferred shade?

I actually like a proper, bright yellow but only on a very thin tubed frame.

Yeah, I am trying to figure out what to paint my FTP, I was thinking white, but the white ones I have seen are sort of blah, I think I may just find something ridiculous like the BMW hunter orange or something. I dunno.

Pale yellow can be classy. With some chrome stays/fork blades and black lettering mmhmmm…

he’s talking about an aluminum bike…
as for yellow, a white/yellow/blue color scheme on an FTP would look clean. Like spray the whole thing whit, then mask off some parts, hit it with blue, mask off some more and hit it with yellow, then clear coat it.
