Going to throw the 3 by 7 junk on there that came off the Stumpjumper. Also borrowing some parts from the Wifes peugeot. Going to build her bike up with one by 9 when she gets back on the bike probably next year.
Noticed that the xtracycle kit has a nice crack about to in behind the rear dropout. That kind of sucks, but I’ll bring it to work and have them weld it. It’s pretty much cracked all the way through.
It’s aluminum so you probably want to consider a heat treat after welding or it’s just gonna crack again
God damn it. Is it not steel? It looks like it may be steel. Like the abrasions that it has on it have what looks like surface rust. God damn it.
I thought they were aluminum. I may be wrong though. Magnet test?
You read my mind. I’ll be right back
Looks like some of the accessory pieces are aluminum but the base xtracycle kit seems to be steel, and it looks like the base piece that comes up that forms that little hoop around the kid, seems to be steel as well but the rest of its aluminum. Last picture shows the crack right after the drop out
If the rust That was all over my old xtra add on thing is to be believed, it is indeed steel.
Sucks about the crack. Can you get on the seller’s case about it?
The lady was sooooo sweet. She even offered to get us a chariot trailer. Im not too worried about it and i can have it welded at work.
That’s good that you got a hooptie. I find it totally great for kids past 4 or so, better than being totally strapped in. Both kids just rode a weeride kangaroo until they became with it enough to hold on.
Yeah there was some extra cycle kits for sale closer to us, but they didn’t have the accessories that we would have wanted. Those YouTube bars that go on the bottom are neat, but I think this is more important because when the kids grow up they will be able to just jump in and go without the seats.
Pro tip, at least with my hooptie you can set the bars the exact width of a milk crate wide. So you can just jam one or two milk crates in there and they fit perfectly, no need for a strap or anything.
Nice!!! I need to pick up some milk crates. Want to experiment with them on the commuter
Oh and I think that pic shows, the utubes are also generally good for just like holding stuff up a bit more solidly than the Xtracycle bags do by themselves. Worth getting imo
Yeah I think I’ll eventually end up with the YouTubes as well. It looks like it does help a lot to support weight in the bags. I just knew that those hooptie Bars were a necessity right off the bat for us
U rite
Utubes also make carrying another bike super easy, front wheel in the utube, lash the front of the bike to the hooptie and let the rear wheel trail behind you.
edit: found a photo from when I had an xtra
I bought a thing that has a rocky mounts tray on it that attaches in the same spot as the utube.
That reminds me that I’ve been meaning to figure out a way to make it work on the Bullitt.
That is suhweet!!! Yeah i think we will get u tubes eventually because of that purpose. Trailing kids bikes when they get tired
