the first is fucking annoying and obviously stupid of the driver but very predictably going to go wrong.
the second is insane and what the fuck lol right turn from three lanes over? amazing. i would be on tilt if that had happened to me.
the first one happens multiple times every morning so it’s totally predictable. it’ll be slightly better when the finish the construction and there is a car and bike and pedestrian signal. as it is now, I can cross on the pedestrian signal, which is clearly going to lead to conflicts.
The second one I followed them but we were a block from the highway onramp so they were gone gone
that second car took off like they knew they fucked up lol
Yeah that first one it really looks like the van is trying to go slow, waiting for the ped to finish crossing, and of course when they started turning you were way far back out of sight, but when you arrived the van was at an angle where you probably weren’t in view of the side view mirror nor of the driver looking over their shoulder, because lack of windows. Shitty infrastructure and light signals that seems designed for conflicts.
Yeah. not sure why I lost the audio but i’m blasting the 120dB horn basically the whole video.
It’ll be nice when the finish the construction. This is my first time riding this way in 2 weeks. Usually I take the lane for the last couple of blocks, but the construction moved more than I expected.
that’s just how people drive here
let the real estate guy talk me into locking my bike and getting in his car yesterday. he never stopped texting.
is driving in NYC ever pleasant/more efficient? you shoulda talked him into getting on a citibike
you can save 5 mins in a car from Brooklyn to Manhattan but it’ll cost you $20 in congestion pricing tolls
anywhere but job island, car can be highly time efficient for getting to a cornucopia of miscellaneous locations
There is nowhere in my battery range that a car is going to beat me
The space is under market so I was trying to be nice.
Oh man, I’d never get in someone’s car and then be stranded at the destination or beholden to them for a ride back to my bike.
Nope, I’m 100% “I’ll meet ya there buddy!”
And I’m always there first and stand around for fifteen minutes while he looks for a parking space that will accommodate his big truck and then I watch as he parks it in a daylighting space or something with the blinkers on.
I met with a masonry contractor the other day and watched him drive his cybertruck around the block three times before double parking.
didn’t hire him.
today I dumped a bag of dog poop out on a car that had parked across the sidewalk on my street.
tw bike carnage (no people carnage)
Surprised that doesn’t happen more often tbh
Wild that both of them died, especially the scooter guy with the full face helmet. Must have been gnarly.
The queensboro bridge bike path is sketchy as fuck. You can really get hauling down either side. We’re talking about a bridge that’s over 1 mile long here and on the east side it is a long and consistent downslope. And it used to be even worse, with a path the width of a narrow lane of traffic split into two by a strip of paint with cyclists relegated to one lane and pedestrians to another.
