That is a really fun video and that bike looks fucking rad.

Also, like with the last generation, the spec is surprisingly competitive. The Deore build looks really good and MSRP comes in at $100 less than a carbon Stumpjumper with NX. And it’s a Mojo, so it’s going to ride better.

Only downside is it doesn’t come in bright fucking red. TDB. I’ll stick with my Mojo 3.

Extra fun thing is that it’s all filmed around where Robin & Elin (and I) live!

So I went out and did some laps (sessioned?) some trails near my house (for those in SF, Laguna Honda, but not the closed part). Surprisingly fun, with a few different routes down basically the same stretch of hill that cross each other a few times and give a few options. Not very technical by any means, but inside San Francisco, I’ll take what I can get. I haven’t ridden trails with (small) bermed corners for a while.

I do still hate Eucalyptus leaves, though. They are so fucking slippery and they are tough as shit, so tires just don’t puncture them. Ate shit kinda hard when my front washed out on a bunch of them. The wheel dropped off the trail, caught on something and I scorpioned pretty nicely. Somehow managed to avoid hitting my head or sticking a hand out to fuck up a wrist, but I do have some pretty good scrapes on my knee and elbow and my knee is getting a little sore. I should probably have been wearing kneepads.

What lightweight trail bike kneepads does the hivemind like these days? Any consideration I need to give for short and thicc legs (by the time I’ve sized for leg width, most 3/4 length things I’ve used are 15/16 length for me)? I’m not very gnarly and 85% or more of my riding time is spent struggling uphill, so breathable is important, though I suppose they need to be protective enough that they’re worth wearing.

i got these bad boiz now

The ixs flow evos would probably work pretty good for you. They are pretty short, but still have a decent amount of protection. The pad is also removable so you can wash them, which was the main selling point. I just upgraded to the carve evos, which was super comfy, but tight as shit on the calves due to the additional length.

I do not understand why most cycling shit is designed for people with tiny calves. I’m firmly a size medium on their chart, but if my calves were any bigger, these would be unwearable.

Yeah I’m in the L to XL range for most of these pads it seems. That’s fine for me but it sucks for an actual large person.

That IXS pad looks good. I was looking at that and the POC Joint VPD System Knee.

Those fox pads seem really long. Am I reading right that they are 33 cm long?

correct they are loooooong bois

not annoying tho

That’s small and I’ve got like 27" of inseam lol

I use the Destroyer Crest pads most of the time. I have some 661 for really rocky stuff, though. The Crest stay in place pretty well, with just a silicone gripper on them.

Here’s a review. The regular Crest are $10 cheaper, but the Pro has a velcro top if you’ve got massive quads.

turned out to be that both compression damper knobs were dialed waaaay in

I did the full lollipop today at Raging River, 4000ft in 16 miles of newly built enduro trails. Realized that in addition to wrecking my lungs, Covid also gave me a flabby paunch and my belly doesn’t feel so great when climbing

also Feedbags don’t work so great on an ultra-modern bike, they were restricting my steering

Yeah you gotta get on the tactical fanny pack train.

You can strap some basic flat tire stuff to the underside of the top tube. That has worked out pretty well for me.

Centered on the front of the bars between the cable loop is the new hotness for ultra-short-stem MTBs

Is there a solution to a saggy KS dropper that’s worth the effort? Or should I just get a better derper?

Replacement gas rod? That’s about all you can do.

Ugh that costs half of a better dropper.

Has anyone used the PNW Ranier? Or something else that they like more? Or am I just being lazy and something else won’t be better?

I cast a vote on the OneUP droppers, mine have been absolutely trouble free for over two years and mine is even the ā€œfirst genā€.
