Sup didn’t like goggles because it limited field of vision. Started wearing some cheap amazon clear glasses that matched helmet and liked it well enough. Plus cheap to replace.
Since collarbone break I have been just wearing my normal glasses on all rides now. I did a few laps at Thunder with goggles, but hard to read handwritten signs so I went back to glasses. Doesn’t help that borked collarbone happened on first day I was trying contacts in a few years (astigmatism–but I am farsighted so I used to be able to get by without glasses when riding).
Huh yeah, I just went down a rabbit hole of goggle research after I remembered that I lost them and posted here. Oakleys and astigmatism contacts were doing it for me big time (prism trail lenses are also sooo good for blasting through roots and rocks in the woods). One thing I like about goggles is added helmet stabilization, but this new helmet fits pretty darn nicely.
Def have wanted the trail prism lenses if and when I do get any oakleys.
i’ve heard other people say this about goggles, but i just do not quite get it. maybe it’s different with different goggles or how they fit certain faces… but the only area where the goggles actually limit my vision is at the bottom by my cheeks/nose and that’s not an area you really look at mtbing, so i’ve never noticed it (skiing either).
just saving my eye balls from dust is reason enough when park riding. i never wear them elsewhere.
i dont have any glasses/contacts considerations to worry about though.
I think it was on some really slow, techy shit where it was almost understandable to look down. Or some fogging. Or both.
yeah, but you can just move your chin down?
unless youre wearing a neck brace.
i also use 'em in the winter for cold commuting. it’s so nice.the lack of a gap between the goggles + helmet means no ice cream head ache from frozen air hitting the gap between glasses and hat/helmet.
with my full face on, fogging is def an issue if i have to pedal more than like 20 ft of gain, but not much issues with that at the park.
i tried them at the dirt jumps once because i cant fit sunglasses under my helmet, but it was an immediate no go due to fogging.
You’re more than welcome to tell her she is wrong. Best of luck!
i am just curious if it’s a perception thing or if there’s an actual difference in other peoples experience in goggles.
not trying to delegitimize a difference in perception.
It must depend on helmet fit and facial structure too. If you’ve got a tall head or forehead and the hamlet rides higher that will limit downward vision. If your cheekbones stick out farther from your eye sockets that would make a difference too. It wouldn’t take much, and I also do a lot of looking downward in really slow tech sections. (edit: this is more general riding, not DH type stuff).
I’ve never worn goggles on the bike but skiing I notice they restrict my peripheral vision, and I have some nice Smith ones in XL.
This was pretty incredible. A nice change from all the POV to let you see how ridiculous most of it is.
half face and sunnies
I got a sore throat and heart burn just watching this Jesse Melamed POV from the crankworx summer series…![]()

ITT: I’ll be spamming. This was a really fun watch last night, some live racing in 2020. Who would have though.
I like that Casey Brown tore her meniscus 11 days ago and still charging hard.
@frank_doktor: And casually dropping: “Just gonna be a part of the crew, have fun and don’t ride so hard” in the live stream… Def on another planet level.
Stoked for the DH in 20 minutes!
Also did some chill park laps today, stayed on mostly the same three blue trails the whole day. Don’t want to stress into riding again after crashing the other day.
Top to bottom runs are 8km/5mi and around 900m/2900 feet of vert and I did three. Still keeping good pace according to my strava. The Swoop really feels great with the Lyrik, didn’t put that much time on it last season since I got it late. The added 10mm and beefier chassi helps!
Spent my afternoon swapping out my kinda dried out Kenda Hellkat front and fresher Big-S Eliminator rear to the Michelin Wild Enduro-set. Thought I got the wrong front tyre first when I opened my package, front tyre was “eMTB version”… Turns out Michelin doesn’t do the regular Wild Enduro front in 2.6", turns out it’s exactly the same tyre as far I can read/google just made in 2.6" and 2.8". Mounted up super easy with a regular floor pump, much stoked for test riding tomorrow!!
New Rig! My first big bike. I picked this up because even though I loved riding park with my Scout my body was taking a beating. Took it out to Blue Mtn for the first time yesterday. Feels great in the air and tech trails are actually fun now. No regerts.
jealous
that looks v sick
So PA people, I’m going to be in Lakeville, PA, next weekend. Is there somewhere closer than Blue Mtn or Glen Park to ride a big bike? So annoying that it is equidistantly too far from both Mountain Creek and Blue.
