wow thatās fucking cool. not something i even considered. iām glad i can support that by buying 12oz redbulls whenever i drive more than 2 hours in a row. ultimately the matcha packets i keep in the car end up saving me, but redbull has been indoctrinating me since i was 18 so
Took the Marin to Buffalo Creek for a solo ride. Donāt know what went wrong, but I could not make it clickāso many mistakes. Iām chalking it up to unlearning 6-7 years of riding Jonesā bikes.
Smacked the living hell out of my left ankle and gouged my right calf on the pedal, so it might be time to seek out some better safety gear.
Iāve got many pairs of socks with pin holes in them.
One bit of kit I like for a little extra confidence is mid/high top shoes like the fiveten trail cross. They have d30 padding right where your ankle might sometimes graze things.
Honestly, some rides are just like this. Then you come back and ride again and things click again. For me, I always chalk it up to some kind of swing in hormones affecting my brain because I feel like on those days my balance is off and I start getting upset with myself and it spirals. Those days, I usually give up on being any good and just play it safe and cut it short if I have to, just to make sure nothing happens, especially if I am struggling to focus on the trail. Even somewhere chill like Buff Creek can result in injuries if youāre not absolutely focused (i wrecked both knees and elbows in one go once when my front wheel dove into a particularly thick pile of kitty litter in a corner).
Also currently healing from ramming my own shin and calve into my new, extra spikey pedals at Horsethief bench a couple weeks ago. Did both of these while stopped with my feet already on the ground. Shit happens.
I made a dumb little trail bike edit from my ride on Sunday. The second clip wasnāt great, but it was the only halfway decent one of the four takes. Itās in the Stub Stewart state park, if anyone is familiar with the area.
Having a tough time adjusting to conventional bars after 6-7 years on Jones bars. On the flats, I find myself resting my hands on top of the brake lever bodies at what feels like a 20-25° angle. Should I switch to something with more sweep than the stock 9° back/5° up riser? Maybe a slightly longer stem (stock one is 35mm long).
If you have longer stems, I would start there. Cheapest and easiest. Plenty of 50mm stems out there.
Was kind surprised the Marin ebike i got came with 35mm stem. I will say their stem and bars looked really nice. I just needed 50mm on the size L I got. Stem really looked like a RF Turbine R knockoff.
May have to head to Transition to see what sales they have on demo and display bikes. They claim up to 50%. Probably last gen Repeaters with shimano motor, headset cable routing and magura brakes. Better not have cheap Relays after what we did spent on supās.
Oh, and it was still kinda annoying to change brakes. Also tried to put hose through chainstay (currently transmission) and it doesnāt go through or I can see it even hitting. Guys, it is 2023, stop making cheap carbon bikes that you canāt just push shit through it.
They put some new jumps in at the bike park near me. Theyāre pretty easy but fun. Nice wooden lips so they should be durable.
Screen cap from a video. Felt decent about my form.
Made some minor, incremental changes to the Marinās suspension and tire pressure and itās definitely paid off. Still working on the cockpit and my āattack position,ā but things are coming together nicely.
3c exo+ dhf for $35! Thereās a DHR with DD casing (more protection than exo+) for $40 too. Trying to resist stocking up. If they had cheap max grip minions, I definitely would.
I, too, am trying to resist some stocking up. Have my wet boi tires on now, and could probably still get a bit of life out of the spec butcher/eliminator that were on my stumpy evo come spring. May wait for bigger sales on spec tires, since I like them and they seem to last a while compared to some maxxis experience I have had.
