I’m kinda stoked for Joyride coverage. I don’t know how I never paid attention to this stuff before, I think I was just either too anti-bro to see the fun or not well versed enough in MTB adjacent activities.

They’re such bros. I watch these events like I’d watch the circus. It’s just entertaining.

HY that was a fun watch

I need more

Did a couple fast blues yesterday and they were great.

I went for a ride and didn’t take any pictures. Big group of E dirt bikes and a bunch of families with no helmets and department store bikes asking me for directions. Wanted to give them directions to the bike shop.

Stewart?

Stilwell. Its roots and rocks and sand

Where are these fast blues? I wanna go

The park I’m working at has so many fun blues and blue-blacks.

Worked at our mini kids camp (3 days) the last 3 days and my girls were doing awesome on the blues, but 8-9 year olds who weigh 50 lbs have such a hard time getting up any bigger rollers. Just no momentum. They had to pedal up little rolly wood bridges and such.

We had to help a 15 year old who hit his head pretty bad yesterday. He was alone and had no idea what happened. Had already picked himself up and moved off trail and called his mom, but had no idea what happened or where he was. My girls were so sweet and nice with him though and talked with him until bike patrol arrived and told him about all their crashes. They noticed he had painted nails and complimented him on them which he seemed to really appreciate.

Executive decision and Ferdinand the bull are some new blue guys that they added to the raging river section come off the top of the PCT which is an old technical climbing trail that used to go to some bootleg single track off the top of the same hill… Some of that is still there.

Everyone is telling me lately that this shock has a flawed design but dang it sure feels good on ride 1 after a professional rebuild and nitrogen recharge. I feel like I would’ve gone down on todays mix of wet rocks and grippy dirt if this thing wasn’t doing it’s job really well. Now I can feel how fucked up my fork is lol.

DPX2 was always a solid shock. I know some folx aren’t as keen on the Float X, but I haven’t had too many problems with it on a few bikes. Though the stumpy one did get to squelching stage a bit sooner than preferred (5 months). Probably should give it to mechanics and let them do the 200hr or full rebuild of it, as I have a super deluxe on there now that makes it quiet again.

Seems like newer air shocks all went kinda high volume low pressure. I would like to try something more modern, and the avalanche guy said he can do more with the float x. But I could do worse than a perfectly functioning shock that this frame was designed for.

There’s a cheap fox coil on pinkbike that will fit this frame but it is in Calgary and the guy doesn’t seem like he will ship. That’s what I want to mess with next. Thank goodness I don’t think anyone here lives there.

One of my riding buddies said Fox has been replacing them when they go in for service.

Supposedly the damper shaft wears more than it should on the DPX2. I guess that’s not a problem if you keep up on the 125 hr service interval.

We’ve had a few get replaced this way. Even one that was essentially brand new.

Seems par for the course for Fox tho lol

I think that Fox 36 I’ve been using has a creaky csu? Sometimes it feels like the headset is the tiniest bit loose.

I’ve had decent results with the linseed oil trick.

Pull the fork and put it upside down in the vise. Drip some linseed oil around the base of the steerer tube. Warm the crown a bit with a heat gun then let it sit overnight. I’ve had a few forks completely shut up after this.
