I do run an insert! Here is some of it.
Iām all in on inserts. Yeah sticking with what I know is probably the move. These tires have life in em yet, so when they run down Iāll find some tan jawns
Spec eliminator soil searching probably next step up in tread but still pretty fast rolling tire. It is usually stock rear on stump jumper and such. But no reason it canāt be f/r.
What have you done
Iām told that a cushcore wouldnāt have torn like that. But this is all that came out of the rear after like 2 years so Iām happy. It is a Dual density rimpact (āproā). Half the weight and half the price. Strangely the foam seemed glued to the tire quite hard in places and I wonder whether it tore as a result of that phenomenon.
I donāt know anyone who runs pressures as low as me so I think it is just time to add a few. With my old shock, I felt that the low pressure was helping me grip but now Iām not so sure. Iāve also put on like 10 lbs over the last year or two in a quest to not feel like Iāll get snapped like a twig when I crash.
New tire waiting for me to retape the rim
Excited to try this since I bought it at least a year ago.
lol man I think I realized what the stickiness is aboutāgorilla tape residue!! Many of you warned us gorilla tapers that it is not the ideal product for this use case.
I like how it just looks like someone took bites out of it as a treat.
They opened up another mtb specific trail area about 20 minutes from me. It actually turned out pretty well IMO.
Iāve now gotten a few laps on it and have some goals to work up to. I do some big drops at the park, but really struggle with them in natural settings. The new area has nicely built landings and take offs, but requires clearing some rocky gaps to get to those landings. My friend did some big ones today and it was good to see her do it and get an idea of the speed and some footage to help me visualize it.
Hoping I can maybe check some of these off over the winter.
Drop #1 Is only maybe a 3-4 ft horizontal, 5 ft vertical drop to get to the sweet spot of the landing, but the landing is loose and right into a turn. My friend landed fairly deep on the one where she crashes, then redid it with a little less speed and landed in a much better spot.
Drop #2 (The landscape clip) is a pretty decent step down, at least 10 ft horizontal distance to the landing, but itās got that nice long bridge into it to set you up with the speed.
Drop #3 has a big boulder in the gap to landing, so it looks most scary, but not as far as a gap from the take off to landing as the 2nd one I donāt think. Pretty straight forward step down aside from the ugliness youād imagine would happen if you landed on that rock.
That trail looks bad ass!
Is that gonna stay pretty snow-free over the winter?
Hard to say! Itās on a south facing hillside in an area that isnāt known to get much snow, but the lower part of the trail is in a gulch with lots of shade, which would hold any snow they do get. Iām optimistic itāll be good though nov, then off and on through the winter, but it may end up snowed in for a month or two.
bottom of the trail in the gulch is my favorite part. Hops from side to side in the gulch with several step up jumps (which are very caseable), with a few man made rock features that arenāt too difficult, but make it more dynamic. Very roller coastery.
Found a decent POV on youtube:
The big drops are all on optional side routes as the main trail is a blue/black as you can go around most stuff, which makes it pretty accessible for people looking to work their way up.
That trail looks so cool. I wish to ride well built trails.
That would be a fun but entirely new kind of writing for me⦠That looks way more buffed out than even the park stuff here. Donāt think that weāre as janky as the north east⦠none of my drops have built landings.
Iām on 2.6 rekon tanwalls. Sandy/dusty-over-hardpack here in Bend. I donāt go though too much chunky rock, but when I do itās real chunky and sharp. Kinda surprised theyāve held up as long as they have. Iām 250lbs an run them on crabon rims with no liner.
Hoping to go to a more aggressive tread. The Rekons roll so good but I want more traction in corners.
Unless you weigh what I do, Iād stick to the smaller size.
Itās been open for a month. Itās machine built trail so pretty typical for that. Itāll wear away a lot and reveal the rocks beneath.
Trek paid a bunch of money toward these so i think we can thank Cop Bike Co.
Alright i went back and checked off the first drop from the video. Itās the smallest one but itās a rock take off to a dirt landing without a ton of room for error and the dirt was even more loose today. Had to turn my brain off but i followed my friend and it was fine.
There was a huge trail crew working next to it which didnāt help.
Just need to mentally get ready for the other two.
Went to a new to me trail area today and did the most well known trail, black slabbath. It lived up to the name. My friend and i took the easier lines on yeah of them but were able to slowly pick our way through everything. But it was a hard trail to do blind so we hiked a lot of the features then rode them to figure out the lines. Anyway, between that and getting lost, we were over an hour behind schedule before we got to the second descent, which turned out to be entirely tech jank.
I also forgot a second bottle so i had 1 bottle for 4.5 hours.
Anyway i got annoyed and walked all the hard features on that one.
Thank you for reading my blog.
thatās bike riding
Thought i maybe bottomed out suspension on one of the slab sections
Reviewed the footage
Might have bottomed out the fork twice in short succession
Also my rear derailleur is pretty shot but kinda hilarious seeing what my chain looks like frame by frame when the rear suspension takes some hits.
It is as dry as Iāve ever seen it here. Dust, hard pack, all the rocks sticking out of the dehydrated soil and now covered with a blanket of leaves. Boy are my arms tired!
The bump stop on my coil basically goes to the bottom after a few minutes of descending. I donāt feel it bottoming out but I guess thatās a coil thing. Not sure if I should try a heavier spring, try the cascade link, or just enjoy the ride. I put the hbo at 2/4 clicks today to see what that would be like, too. I think the bike started sitting a bit higher. Honestly it is my fork that is harshing my mellow.
Oh yeah, krypto feels nice. I want to try one on the front too. That sunset light at my ātime to go downā spot is so good.
