All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

That’s a pretty banging cost on the BikeYoke. I know it is v2, but still below cost. Sup has one on her stumpy and it is pretty trick and was always one of the smoothest post I’ve felt.

test rode both a s3 & s4 stumpjumper, both felt pretty good, there was no real winner between the 2 sizes

couldn’t make a decision so left empty handed

I’ve always gone up, but now I’m finally thinking I’m gonna drop down and try a medium as larges keep still creeping up in length. But seat tube still keep getting shorter so i feel like I’m gonna have a mile of seatpost on a medium.

I wish I went with less length on my dropper

Cached wood for this project 2 years ago. Finally went up last night and got started. Finished the job today.

Lessons learned:

  • Cut wood exactly to size before carrying it up the hill. These planks could be narrower and probably will be once I go back for detail work. I could have cut them to 3/4 the size and so could have carried less wood up.
  • A 5 gallon bucket is the ultimate UL chair / multipurpose tool
  • Canola oil makes great chainsaw bar lubricant

If you plan on riding that when it’s wet, you might want to cover it with chicken wire or some water sealant with play sand mixed in.

It is pitched a few degrees downslope with the idea that water will run off of it. But I am prepared to do more if necessary. But not a lot of riding happens when it is wet here. The ground is not conducive to it.

I like the water sealant and sand idea. I’ve never heard of that.

Goddammit it’s fucking $18 a month to watch the world cups?

the worst part is they don’t put MTB races on cycling torrents. i can check my Russian website once I turn my laptop on

I wish I could have watched that full DH race.

That track was so loose!

We can’t watch it until later tonight or tomorrow so have to avoid spoilers for a bit

All the racing was so good.

i am selling my ripmo to a friend and want to buy a slightly shorter travel bike now that i have the hd6.

but i’m having this sizing dilemma because i’m feeling like larges have slowly gotten a little too long for me and i rode a friend’s medium pivot and it felt pretty good. anyway, turns out pivot mediums are only a hair smaller than ibis xm (previously called large).

but i’m looking at getting a smuggler and the smuggler medium looks like it would be way cramped?

here’s a few random bikes compared to my ripmo:

as a long femured person, am i correct to think that top tube seems a little too crunched if i like the fit of the ripmo?

the large smuggler loses the shorter wheel base advantage that i was hoping for. i want something that feels a little more nimble on trail and also that i can practice manuals on without feeling like a hopeless old person.

Ripley SL in XM or Epic Evo 8 in Large?

Revel rascal in large to keep it CO.
you rock a 40mm stem on the ibis?

Ripley XM is somehow a longer chainstay and a longer wheelbase than my ripmo, which doesn’t really make sense. 8mm more reach and 3mm longer wheelbase.

I can’t remember if i have a 40 or a 50mm stem. It’s the stock stem.

Revel is a good idea actually, they moved to Golden so I should be able to demo one.

Walked the Fort William track the other day. Not sure I’d ride this unless someone paid me to (and then no jumps except maybe the small river gap). DH bike mandatory, good grief.

Here’s a “berm”:

Basically a flat landing, about 6 ft down:

Better nail the speed on the road gap considering how steep the landing is lol (hiking pole held level for perspective):

Not even going to show the river gap put in for 2024 or the motorway jumps.

The lack of trees up top always makes things look out of scale as everything looks kinda flat.

though at least knowing it from WC footage, you have a bit of perspective.

i watched that ‘average rider rides the world cup track’ video of the s. korea track and the camera made it look extremely flat.
