All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

The rocks are all comically large, like 2-3x larger than you would expect rocks to be. The surface is pebbly and it is steeper than it looks. Like I walked on the grass next to the track most of the time at the top because it felt like I was gonna fall on my butt slipping on the little and larger pebbles.

it’s no wonder the UK has so many good downhillers per capita. imagine cutting your chops at that track as a junior trying to place at nationals.

Neko back at it with the 32" shenanigans.

Hopefully he can guide an exo+ dissector better than most at Mountain Creek.

Well, they have other tracks too. How about this one:

i forgot if i mentioned here that the housing is stuck inside the frame on my hd6.

extremely frustrating. i suppose that’s a possible side effect of having the internal tubing that makes the routing easy. i took it to my ex for a tune up a few weeks ago and he said he pulled on it for an hour, took the cranks off to get a better pull from the lower exit hole, and could not get it to budge.

he trimmed off the very end and put a brake noodle type thing on there, but the shifting is worse than ever. it only works in the lower gears (i suppose those are technically the better ones to have working?) and in the higher gears it starts ghost shifting like crazy and every pedal stroke it changes gears then jumps.

i just gave up and emailed ibis for some tips on what’s safe to spray in there. So far I only tried water and tried forcing the water in with compressed air. But i have no idea how far down the tube it’s sticking so what if i am just pushing the dirt further in??? spraying water from both ends might just be pushing the dirt into the middle?

Man I was looking for a rain jacket a few weeks ago and saw the new OR mtb range of clothing. Now I keep seeing it on youtubers. I liiiike.

I bumped into some dudes in the woods today, one if them was riding this crazy Santa Cruz 5010. It was a single speed with 26" wheels, rear brake only and sized down. Wish I’d got a pic.

At Angel Fire for the weekend. Despite the fact that this park managed to rattle loose my torqued to spec crank arm in like two days causing me to face plant into the back of a jump, still love it. Finally ran through the big jump line without skipping anything and that felt really good. Was finally clearing the big jump at the end of world cup too, but too chicken to try the gaps before that. You’re just so tired when you get to the bottom.

@Jacobell you plan to check out this place at all this summer?

Going to be a dusty season i bet. CO got hammered with rain last week and clearly NM did not. It was really dusty and there’s a race here in a couple weeks so that track is already getting destroyed by people practicing ahead of the race

I don’t have a big enough bike yet.

Funny enough we had friends from Boulder riding there this weekend too.

There were lots of front rangers there this weekend. I was down there with a group and we knew several other couples who were there, then i looked at strava and saw two other acquaintances were also there and i didn’t even see them.

Its definitely nice to have a bigger bike (i rode my hd6), but there’s plenty of greens and blues. My partner was on his status 140 and didn’t die.

Moderate chance we know some of the same people.

I’ve been getting beat up on my Orange, which is 27.5 140/130. Getting the suspension dialed here has been difficult. Half the trails are flowy and reward a stiffer setup and the other half are super chunky. Sometimes I have both in a single ride. I think some more travel will give me more versatility with a single setup.

Seems likely. Or at least we’re max 2 degrees of separation.

My ripmo was def the sweet spot as far asa big bike that doesn’t feel over biked on more xc type trails. I got a little beat up at AF on my ripmo last year before i got the hd6,

the ripmo is high on my list. considering norco sight a1, sentinel or going all in on a chromag or other steel frame. just really want something that isn’t carbon.

Carbon is kind of great for a bike that you pedal

I tend to damage carbon because I’m careless

Oh yeah, big con of carbon lol.

My Marino is a single pivot Sight. I’ve been a fan of Norco for a long time. If you’re looking at the Sentinel, the Sight’s wheelbase probably won’t bother you.

Ever seen RAAW? The 170/160mm Madonna?

They’re basically a German Banshee, just a few well-made aluminum frames that have all sorts of chips to adjust things.

Bulletproof, kinda heavy, just like Banshee, but more modern geo - they fit longer droppers, for example. Huge pivot bearings that are super easy to service. They also have really sweet cable routing that’s external but hidden inside a groove in the downtube.

Not cheap, but if you’re looking at steel, they’re affordable.
