Bike blerg thread

That’s one of my main uses too. I would love it if there were a better option. Strava’s gear tracking is clearly an afterthought at best and there’s no sign they’re ever going to put more work into it.

I don’t really care about the KOM stuff (I’m slow) or the social aspect (all my rides are marked as private), I just want something that will keep my ride history and track mileage on gear.

This.

I pay for RWGPS. I don’t pay for Strava. I use intervals.icu so I can geek out over MY data.

i do like strava in the winter because i can see where my friends are skiing and ask them how the conditions are. but that’s free.

i pay for that. i can come up with a pretty decent route during post-coffee activities no problem. fully worth it

RWGPS is the only subscription I pay for outside of iCloud storage.
I could not live w/o it.

can I easily port 10 years of data from Strava to RWGPS? does the latter track part wear?

Honestly. It seems like it would be kinda nice to build up a number of bikes that way. All external cables. No internal housing. Not a phone in sight.

dcrainmaker is a valuable resource but this excerpt blows my mind

I’m not really sure why one would buy it monthly. I mean, that’s what I wrote till I noticed my wife was signed up monthly for the last 5 years, which, is actually my mistake. I had upped her account to Subscriber to test something years ago and never thought about it again. Doh.

do people not look at their credit card statements, like ever?

Ahh rad. I’d take a code, I’ll dm you!

Not as comprehensive, but I use a numbers sheet to track all my bike spending since fall last year. It’s sobering and also very good for discouraging impulse buys.
I’m very curious what the $/mile will look like after one year.

re stravachat:

I stopped paying a long time ago as just use it to be social. For any serious training I purchased WKO5. For training, you can ditch the monthly subscriptions and the level of self coaching you can do has reached pro levels. Or just link the data to your favorite coach. The current version has segment creation so I can continue to use a favorite hill for testing myself. Even make your own Zwift segments. It is far more comprehensive than Strava or anything like it.

RWGPS is definitely the best tool I’ve used for routing.

YNAB is great but it is pretty expensive. I used it for a few years but have since switched to Budget with Buckets. It doesn’t have all the same functionality but it serves my needs perfectly. The most important part is the envelope style budget management, which it shares with YNAB.

YNAB is so good that it can help you realize that you’re wasting piles of money on personal budgeting apps
