Bike blerg thread

I haven’t known anyone who worked there for a few years. I should probably check up with the dudes that used to work there and see if they’re ok.

how does this work in practice? they say “sorry you’re SOL, we don’t support that model anymore”? they don’t offer to swap with a current model?

I’ll slide into your DMs later

this further validates my decision to just buy DT Swiss hubs whenever I need to make such a decision

I feel like modern bikes have really abandoned some things that once made it easy to add anno bling trinkets to your ride. So I applaud this development.

I feel like at a certain level of boutique ano hubs they should come with a matching TA, or at least provide a package option, so I’m with Jimmy

That was my plan too until the new gen stuff (at least 142 thru road) stopped being available in 32 holeway.

What I’ve spent more time thinking about than I should is how TA are part of the bike but QR skewers are part of the wheel. In that sense this ano trinket is an incredible breakthrough.

OneUp has an anodized axle washer, but those are Canadian. I haven’t read the press release, but I bet this Robert Axle collab is supposed to bolster MUSA.

Wolf tooth has had anno thru axles for a while. This isn’t a new invention. Direct color matching perhaps.

I thought they only had the front axles in colors other than black, for some reason. But yes, CK matchy match.

The slow dissappearance of chainring bolts and the long-gone canti straddle hanger are only a partially offset by the rise of tubeless valve stems.

The fact that dropper posts only come in black or kashima is a travesty.

yeah that baby blue hub has a turquoise thruaxle

What in the hell? I looked through their wheels, most are 24-spoke. Probably a dumb question, but are the individual parts getting stronger, or did the market bifurcate strongly enough into ebikes that they don’t care about Clydes or tourers anymore?

Lucky I updated my Vaya to through axle recently so I got some of the last ones.

Someone remind me to sell my CK wheels before the whole world catches on about how overhyped they are

Speaking of, do any new bikes still come with cantis or vbrakes? Or is it all discs and road calipers now? OK trek FX1 comes with Vs as does the Sirrus1

Pretty sure some Crust or other comes with rim brakes. And anyone with an old road or rando frame set up for rim brakes.

spokes are incredibly better quality now than in Jobst’s day

the rim brake died, aluminum rims have better shaping and alloys for higher strength at lower weight, and modern carbon really really wants to stay round forever

with nice parts and brass nipples 24 spokes is enough for any practical non-singletrack non-cargo usecase

you’re right about the market segmentation happening too, but e-cargo-bikes are so much more brutal on wheels than anyone but Andre the Giant could muster normally

Mr snow could very well be Andre the giants son

i’m not THAT huge. But when I’m riding with panniers, I’m decently heavier than prebuilt DT Swiss wheels are rated for.

I know but you’re a big dude and todays 32h hubs are yesterdays 36+

Btw I rode a good portion of the ride we did together in Portland about a month ago and I reminisced with the guy I was riding with. It was a hot day.
