My squishy mountain bike isn’t threaded bb. When the bottom bracket dies I think I’m just going to replace the whole bike.

How you feel is important.

I’d be curious if this sensorially enlightened person produces the same speed at the same wattage on both bikes.

My theory is that a lot of the 35mm+ on the road crew just doesn’t care about max speed in a given moment

Yeah. I can say from experience that its a lot harder to hang-on to the bunch with my RTP’s than it is on a steel roadie running 25s . The bikes would weigh similar. That just delusional fluff from his royal Heinous.

I’m willing to buy an argument that heavier and comfier equipment makes you faster over long slowly covered distances by reducing fatigue, but I don’t think that horizons and a c17 will let you crush the local crits

They don’t care or they actively hide behind Jan’s testing and “data” in the face of counter experience in the real world.

The google groups thread about boulder bicycles had a bunch of people arguing about it but no one could produce any data on their personal riding other than me, poor as mine was.

I do wonder what caused Mike Kone to turn on his dark lord and master. He either had to have sold bikes to people who were unhappy with their performance or done the riding himself and seen the difference. Either way there’s enough people out there who’ve had opposite experience of what the testing showed, they just aren’t very vocal about it online.

I did training crits last year on BSPs then Horizons. I think this year I’m going to race track on BSPs.

Burns so bad

There’s a small contingent of skinny tires über alles out there who are not shy about saying that they’re faster that way, but the fatbike crü is much more vocal so they tend to vanish into the noise.

Iunno, this feels like a sweet spot argument, linked to local routes and conditions. If PA ever got decent roads I’d maybe be faster on 23’s. But PA has shitass pavement and Horizons are great. If I push it and extrapolate to my extremely slow rolling fatbike, then I know I’ve found the other side of the distribution curve, unless I change the condition from shitass PA pavement to ‘beach.’

Of course, its conditions dependent. Not that many of us commuting on gravel tho eh, not that I wouldn’t love to.

We’ve discussed Analog Cycles before and I’ve never seen anything from them that wasn’t just fucking stupid. I don’t expect that this will be much different.

Some people try to use science to prove the benefits of low trail, but we will just use anecdotes in our grumpy bike shop voices to prove there are no benefits!

I don’t think anyone wins here.
