What irks me is that I consider myself a pretty nutmeg-pilled person. I’ve always liked ultraromance’s builds and have spent many of my shop shifts with the riv staff bikes page opened. That whole wing of bicycling was big in my formative bike years until I matúréd into a tarck snob. I will stan steel frames and leather saddles and gum wall tires and friction shifters as hard as the ibob crowd.
None of these hit that mark… like at all. Big swing and a miss displays of wealth that intrigue the unwashed masses because to them an expensive bike is cool whether it is tasteful or not. People buying old shit because it will get them cool guy points, not because it’s the cheapest way to get a functional bike. For shame!

It kinda strikes me the same as the mismatched rims and tires on $3k fully njs certified track bikes. I mean, c’mon, the origin of that aesthetic was immigrants working their asses off in horrible conditions with whatever they could cobble together on their tenuous financial situation, and that kind of build just fetishized it.
Hey Toyota suvs are great tho!! This is closer to many Japanese import cars where the car isn’t any better than what you can get here but you paid a premium for the steering wheel being on the wrong side.

Those are for a custom pannier with a fidlock-like retention mechanism that has 1/2 the capacity of an Ortlieb Gravel that weighs 2x and costs 3x as much.
Well, I don’t know for sure, but I’m just extrapolating from their fork packs.
