Confessions: Untrued and unlubed

You clean your bike before a long ride?

Often if I’ve got a big ride that I’m nervous about coming up I’ll hose off my bike, do a more thorough than normal drive train cleaning and do a lap w/ some triflo to try to eliminate anxiety over a mechanical.

I currently have 5 bikes in rideable condition and I’m building a 6th but I can’t find the time to ride a bike

Yeah no doy join the freaking club dood

Got the kid carrying bike rideable for my wife (aka cut the seat post) and we rode around the neighborhood for a bit last week. I took my mtb because why not. Noticed the seat wasn’t adjusted right. Must be my shoes, different sole thickness. Realized I got these shoes at least two years ago, and therefore hadn’t ridden my mtb in at least two years. So I haven’t been on a mountain bike ride since kid was born. Feelsbadman

I have done at most 3 rides that are not for commuting or utility purposes since my 2nd was born 17 months ago.

functional biker

It’s fewer miles than I thought TBH. I guess I’ve only been 5 days/wk in office for 3 months.

Wondered why my newly bled brakes were rattling and then noticed that i had forgotten to install the metal springy bit…

Also, did this. Cant believe i didn’t know how to tighten a loose rivnut.

How do we still not have a Sheldon reaction guy?

I kinda feel like we have enough reaccs and don’t need this place becoming a huge stew of emoji. And didn’t want to dilute Sheldon. And if it is good enough for a sheldon reacc, then it’s worth the effort of cutting/pasting in a pic.

Still don’t know how to measure chain lines. Always gotten lucky I guess. or used 8 speed chain if it was off.

The “great deal” Open UP frame set I bought to be a parts bin build is costing me a fuck load of money. Not just components but also tools and such (carbon paste, anti seize).

Wait till you have to pull out your BB each time you replace a derailleur cable. Maybe go full length outer from the get-go? And get a wheels-mfg screw-into-yoself BB. That way its pretty much self extracting if you even need to take it out, not that you will, just whack the bearings out each time. Whacking out a bearing is a lot easier than whacking out a shitty stuck in press fit shell. Looking forward to seeing it finished! Mine is looking very tired right now.

Damn didn’t realize I’d have to pull the BB to run the RD cable. I did get a screw together BB from Token. The stupid BB tools just came in the mail today ($50 for a pair). More than the cost of the BB!

Do I use carbon paste or anti seize for the BB? The Token BB is some sort of plastic or composite, not metal.

Not carbon paste. That shit is for putting a bandaid on out of spec seatposts/tubes and nothing else shartmo.

Those derlin cups don’t need much (if any) lube. I’d use Maxima assembly lube or a really low viscosity grease.

I don’t recall using any carbon paste on mine anywhere. Make sure your seat post collar is facing the right direction too. And maybe use a torque wrench on that item. Does the Token BB have replaceable bearings ?

Not even carbon paste for carbon on carbon seatposts, stems, and bars?

It may have replaceable bearings. It’s a new install and the BB was only $30

confession: for basically the entire spring/summer i’ve just pumped up tires and gone for long rides. do i have sealant in there? i’m pretty sure i checked earlier this year. does the chain need lube? maybe? i don’t know. is my bike dirty? definitely yes.
