Did you just ShartQ?

not even if i don’t tell anyone?
(edit: i really really like my teeth so i don’t wanna do anything totally janky but internet searches are giving me mixed answers) (also i trust braden’s opinion on this)

Aircraft stripper is legit. Not sure about powder coat but doesn’t hurt to try. Any auto parts store will have it. Will take some elbow grease as well

Aircraft will strip powder
Make sure u got project pat and juicy j on repeat

I always had better luck with paint when it was media blasted.

I think if you do the aircraft stripper, burnish the tubes with scotchbrite, then prime it, you have a good chance of a long-lasting paint job.

I would clean that steel with simple green after the aircraft stuff.

But for aircraft stripper tips, use a wire brush midway in the crevices, just about the time you put on a chopped and screwed lil flip record

If you search on aliexpress there are 26’in trucker clone frames which have a large size at 56cm tt and which have both canti studs and disc mounts. They’re generally Darkrock branded. They’re cheap as 26’ bike touring isn’t cutting edge.

See if Blacksnow has any distribution in the USA? I asked last year about the mini velo and they were working on it.

SQ why is it impossible to search for anything on aliexpress?

Thorn has a bunch of wacky and sturdy touring bikes designed for eccentric dithering

I wish they did TA and flatmount brakes for their cycletruck, but if they’re mostly aiming at sales in middle income countries, they might be making a realistic choice about parts availability

This is also good

But I’m finding that basically none of the people still making rim brake touring frames do 700c wheels! Which is of course what my LHT is

I was hoping to dither myself into a frame swap but it’s looking more like I’m just going to end up with a new bike once I’m finally afraid to ride this rusty ol frame

“waiting for my surly to rust out” is formally identical to “waiting for pigs to fly”

it takes a while for rust to eat through a 1" wall diameter CrMo pipe

Now that frame definitely does not take a 135mm rear wheel

They actually do!

(not sure which years tho)

Well

If you see one in 56cm

Let me know lol

With a bit of patience something will show up. In addition to the LHT, there’s the Trek 520, Rocky Mountain Sherpa, Soma Saga, plus Novara, Kona, Miyata, and probably others I’m not thinking of that were 700c/canti/steel/threadless stem touring bikes.

Jamis Aurora is another one.

Fairlight if you want to go big $$$

I think I would consider a frame swap for another quality-ish steel frame but if I’m going to toss money around it probably becomes times to get hydro dicks and thru axles
