Did you just ShartQ?

I would personally be fine doing this.

Yeah it seems I’m supposed to run the shift levers on the outside of the brake levers, but these ones have the indicator for the gear # and that gets in the way. Alternatively ispec mounted shifters would work but don’t have those either.

Are the olives the same for both hose/barb sizes?

Yes. The barb only differs to fit either the BH59 or BH90 hose internal diameter.

I was writing above under the assumption that you couldn’t remove the olive after you put on the barb (and especially after having it do its crush washer thing), but maybe I’m misremembering?

Try it like this if you’ve got enough space on the bar. I had a bike setup this way and it was fine atmo.

A Spurbell fits great in that little space between the brake clamp and brace.

Those gear indicators generally can be taken off pretty easily. Screw off cover and a small bit of tape over the enagagement hole for the indicator hand and you’re golden.

yeah the olive is supposed to deform upon installation. def a one time thing. you might manage more uses but who wants to fuck around and find out?

I tried that but I can’t reach my shifters with it on that side!

Thanks I’ll have to try that.

Yeah I put it together with the old olive and bled the system (old hose and brake lever) but it’s still a big mushy mess. Need to take it apart and use a new olive. Hopefully I didn’t leak brake fluid on another brand new set of pads (how I got into this mess in the first place).

unless you see leakage in that area, I wouldn’t necessarily assume that not using a new olive is your issue.

Same here. Faithful service from those Jagwire tools for many years.

TC: have multiple times reused a barb/olive/hose without shortening and replacing and have never had a leak as a result

That settles it then, it’s a Big Olive conspiracy!

Thanks for the rec on this, looks super nice for the price. Love the GoPro style tab and how it comes with the integrated Garmin mount. Consumed with instant savings and a random 15% off coupon.

Anyone else had issues with these expanders loosening?

I’ve been having issues with my headset preload. I think what is happening is the expander plug is loosening and lessening the outward pressure on the steer tube, effectively shrinking the steer tube diameter. That’s then causing the stem to slip a bit on the steer tube.

Carbon paste in the steer tube? Probably going to threadlock the wedge bolt at least.

The last time I had an issue like that (with a steel steer tube that I thought the starnut was slipping in and causing the headset to loosen), it was fixed with a new headset.

Anyone here use Jack the Bike Rack and have an opinion?

It looks like it would fit on all my drop bar bikes, even with Snowaguchi’s centerpull brakes, and would be a nice option for front loads.

I recall someone here suggesting the proper way Is to grease the wedge on the expander and then carbon paste inside the steerer
