Usually no. But sometimes yes. I’ve had frames/bikes come in from various companies over the year with improperly faced headtubes that caused headset shenanigans (15 Bridge Club frames, a handful of Marins, a Bianchi, a Rivendell, some Specialized mtbs with PF30 have come through with improperly reamed and faced BB shells).

But yeah… unless there is a ton of paint or something is wonky, you can usually get away without facing.

Any reason not to put odyssey bmx pedals on kiddos little bike? The kid pedal blow.

Does your kid bike have cranks threaded for junior pedals? because if so they’re not gonna fit.

What about these?

Are kid threads still 1/2"? That’s really the only difference

Some kids bikes are some aren’t. You gotta check to know.

on the small number of frames that i’ve built up as a home mechanic i have not needed to,

but i /have/ had disc brake mounts that needed to be faced, and i feel like i don’t hear people talking about those as much.

If they are 9/16 get the SDG Slater pedals. Absolutely worth it.

so nice that my kid is riding bikes with normal pedals and has hands big enough for adult brakes now! he wears a women’s xs glove which adds a ton of glove options too. getting older is great in that way

Ok… it is! Got ‘em! They make 19mm grips too… kinda stoked honestly. Kiddo is real frustrated pedaling his feet just got all over the place.

next up: get the kiddo in some clipless pedals and start working on their gate starts.

The kids already got hydro brakes and whips skids in the dirt, clipless can’t be very far off

Depends, but I sometimes will draw file them if something is awry. That’ll get you a flat surface. Maybe not one parallel to the other, but flat is usually good enough.

We got a long way to go.
Pedalling is real frustrating right now, in part b/c he is just so small.
I’m hoping he will be pedaling and pumping by 4.5, I want to spend a bunch of time at the pump track.

There is a bmx track real close to us though and the kids wants to send it.
