Similar, if I want to re-cable my bike with 5800, is there any reason not to just get a Jagwire kit? I remember there being some hubbub about greasy polymer housing and cables way back when when I put it together but I sort of imagine Jagwire is good enough
I used Shimano the last time because it was cheaper than Jagwire Pro.
SP41 works better*
*anecdotal
Who here has owned / extensively ridden a Jones bike that can give me a bit of a sanity check?
Iâm growing a longer beard, and think it may be about time to dive head-first into eccentricity. Pretty Jones-curious.
The idea of a pretty capable off-roader that has an upright stance is sounding pretty cool to me. Watched all the vids, read the reviews, and wondering - did it deliver on the promise, and (if itâs gone now) whyâd you sell it?
Paging @Crustradamus and @JUGE_FREDD
I believe @Rent-to-own-Faxmachine has or had one.
Loved it but it was a bit too short for me. Iâd love to try the larger version. Mine, which Fred now has, is the OG flavor.
I would not ride it on chunkier mountain bike trails (I mean I tried. MTBs have suspension for a reason lol) or on a road bike ride but for everything else it was really fun.
I rode Jonesâ bikes for 6-7 years. Great on trails with lots of pedaling, not so great on trails with lots of chunk. Sold mine and switched to a relatively modern full-sus rig.
Cool, thanks for the answers. Nothing unexpected, but it comes down to âwill I ride it enough when I have a Vaya and a Banshee Phantom alreadyâ. And their framesets are not cheap here.
i think @JUGE_FREDD will have the input you seek. sounds like a mega fun bike that i would buy if i still rode bikes
It is a pleasure for like bike camping* or dithering around town if town has some dirt paths. Thinking about it is making me miss it now!
*though I will say that I still remember wishing for a short travel mountain bike as I rode down some really rough doubletrack on the last day of my last bikepacking trip (in 2020, sigh), with sore legs and a sore ass. And thatâs what I sold my Jones to fund.
My Stooge is kinda like a Jones. I think itâs a little longer and little more capable. Itâs a great bike, I love it. Very very comfy riding position. It does beat you up on serious trails but thatâs obvious. I did just get a full sus cuz I miss going really fast. But if you think youâll like the riding position and wonât mind the lack of suspension thereâs no hidden flaws or other major considerations. At least for the stooge itâs a (slow, bc of the tires) hybrid that can handle all but the gnarliest trails and has no problem ripping around gapping doubles on the pump track.
Itâs just a different type of riding, I wouldnât recommend it for people that get frustrated easily, itâs harder going both up and down than a suspension bike, but it just works for me.
I did a 29+ wheelset on my ICT and while I havenât ridden a Jones, I feel like it scratches the same itch (without the need for N+1).
See, I have the same bike and I also have a 29+ wheelset which I rode a lot when it was a Mukluk. But, the geometry is not Jonesâ˘, and thatâs what Iâm most curious about.
Do you have time to talk about the Madonna of Dither, Marino?
It would be a less expensive experiment, for sure.
The thought of getting a Marino version of this early prototype has crossed my mind⌠spaceframe-ish would look bad-ass.
are all the SRAM Force AXS brake bolts terrible? did i just get a bad set? itâs t25 and itâs the worst fitting bolt iâve ever used on a bicycle. itâs weird because the other t25 bolts that hold the caliper together are nice.
is this a common problem or just me? where does one buy replacements? can i just smang some not-t25 bolts from another brake in there? itâs AWFUL
More tubes!
